Stena Bulk Appoints Kihlberg

Stena Bulk, an international tanker owner controlling a fleet of more than 75 tankers from seven offices in six countries, announced the appointment of Mr. Jonas Kihlberg to the position as Senior Vice President of the Stena Bulk Group Worldwide and Head of Stena Bulk LLC. In his position, Kihlberg will focus on expanding and strengthening the market presence and profitability in US/Central and South America. Kihlberg will take up his new role from Stena Bulk's offices in Houston, Texas, USA. Kihlberg returns to Stena Bulk after three years as Manager Chartering with the worlds 3rd largest independent trading house Trafigura AG and a year as Vice President of Skaugen Petrotrans.

Teekay Orders Newbuilding Aframax Tankers

Teekay Shipping Corporation (Teekay) announced that it has entered into two separate agreements to construct a total of six 105,000 deadweight tonne high specification Aframax tanker newbuildings. Four conventional Aframax tankers and two purpose-built lightering ships have been ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries and Tsuneishi Corporation, respectively. The aggregate cost of these vessels is approximately US$260 million, including construction supervision costs and capitalized interest. Paul Wogan, President of Teekay Tanker Services, Teekay's conventional tanker business unit said, "We are pleased to add four high quality vessels from Hyundai Heavy Industries to our existing fleet renewal program.

New President of Skaugen PetroTrans

I.M. Skaugen ASA announced that Skaugen PetroTrans (SPT), its 50 percent owned joint venture company, has appointed Mr. Per Voie as its President. He succeeds Mr. Trygve Munthe, who was named its President of SPT in 1993. Mr. Per Voie (52) comes to SPT after a 28-year career with the Stolt Nielsen Group where he has held a variety of managerial positions. Most recently as General Manager of the recently commissioned "Stolthaven New Orleans LLC". Skaugen PetroTrans is the leading US lightering company handling more than 1.2 million barrels of crude oil per day employing an average of 11 aframax tankers. The company has completed 11,500 lightering operations handling more than 5 billion barrels over its 22 years of operations. SPT is owned 50% by I.M.

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. appointed Otto H. Fritzner as CEO of Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group (SNTG). Fritzner most recently served as Managing Director, Ship Owning at SNTG. He succeeds James B. Hurlock, who was named Interim CEO of SNTG in July 2003. • SNTG's global operations will be organized into three regions - the Americas, administered from Greenwich, Conn.; Asia-Pacific, administered from Singapore; and Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA), administered from Rotterdam, SNTG's corporate headquarters. • SNTG's Indian Ocean Service and the Europe-to-Asia Pacific Service will be operated out of Rotterdam. Lack of Shuttle Tankers: Problem for GOM?

Shuttle tankers meeting rigorous federal safety and environmental standards will be ready to begin transporting crude oil to U.S. ports whenever the first Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel is deployed in the Gulf of Mexico, Houston-based American Shuttle Tankers L.L.C. (AST) said today. "In the weeks since the Minerals Management Service (MMS) approved the use of FPSOs in the Gulf of Mexico, companies evaluating development options for deepwater oil discoveries in the U.S. solutions", said Oyvind Jordanger, president of AST. DeepStar Names New Co-Chairs to Contributors’ Advisory Panel

Peter M. Lovie, P.E., vice president of business development for American Shuttle Tankers L.L.C., Houston, has been appointed to co-chair the Contributors’ Advisory Panel of The DeepStar Project, DeepStar Project Director B. John Sheets, of ChevronTexaco Exploration and Production Technology Co., has announced. ”Peter Lovie has been a tireless advocate for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel technology in recent years and has broad experience with other systems through a 30 year career in our industry”, Sheets said. Lovie became Vice President, Business Development of American Shuttle Tankers L.L.C. in January 2002.
