Teekay Saves Fuel with Cargo Heating Management

Two years after Teekay entered into a contract with Blue Water to provide cargo heating management services onboard its vessels in, its fleet has registered fuel savings in excess of 25% on an average from over 225 voyages. The cargo heating management services were deployed onboard its vessels as part of Teekay’s efforts towards fuel savings and operational optimization. The service was conceptualized by the India-based marine consultancy firm, Blue Water Trade Winds Pvt. Ltd. The service was introduced onboard the tanker vessels under a systematic plan and consistently observed and modified to maximize savings during cargo heating operations.

ABS Adds to Membership

At the recent ABS Council meeting in N.Y., 40 prominent members of the shipping and offshore industries were elected as new members of the international classification society. Teekay, Boeing To Test High-Speed Internet @ Sea

Connexion by Boeing, a business unit of The Boeing Company, and Teekay Shipping Corporation signed an agreement to launch a maritime trial of the Connexion by Boeing service over the North Atlantic beginning in August 2004. "Teekay is a proven leader in the maritime industry and we are thrilled at the opportunity to demonstrate the value that affordable real-time, high-speed connectivity can bring to their operations at sea," said Connexion by Boeing President Scott Carson. "It has been exhilarating to work with the world's leading aviation manufacturer. What is more exciting however, is the ability to trial their high-speed Internet service at sea solution," said Graham Westgarth, president of Teekay Marine Services.

Connexion, Teekay Agree to High-Speed, High Seas Internet Test

Connexion by Boeing and Teekay Shipping will this month launch a maritime trial of the Connexion by Boeing service over the North Atlantic. "Affordable broadband on our ships will allow us to explore business solutions and services that have previously not been feasible," said Graham Westgarth, president of Teekay Marine Services. The Connexion by Boeing maritime solution — 2.5 Mbps to the vessel and 256 kbps from the vessel - is touted as much faster than options currently on the market today. As ships at sea increasingly utilize communication tools to facilitate the efficient operation of ships, this capability will allow users to access the Internet and firewall-protected corporate intranets…

Teekay Shipping is First for Connexion by Boeing

Teekay Shipping Corporation and Connexion by Boeing, a business unit of The Boeing Company signed an agreement that makes Teekay the international launch customer for the Connexion by Boeing Maritime Service. The maritime service is designed to allow vessels in mid-ocean transit to experience global high-speed communications at affordable rates. The agreement calls for the high-speed communications service to be fitted on 50 of Teekay's vessels, with an option to install on an additional 40. "As we worked closely with Connexion by Boeing during the service trial last year, we were very impressed by the power and potential the technology provides," said Graham Westgarth, president of Teekay Marine Services, a business unit of Teekay Shipping Corporation.
