Inmarsat Unveils Fleet F77 at Europort 2001

Inmarsat Ltd, the global mobile satellite communications provider unveiled the first product in its Inmarsat Fleet portfolio, Fleet F77 at Europort 2001. family of three, Fleet F77 offers a unique new Mobile ISDN and Mobile Packet Data service for the maritime community delivering voice, fax and data services at speeds of up to 64 kbit/s. maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) safety standard. With Fleet F77, maritime users will have the flexibility to choose the most cost-efficient two-way communications service for their varying data requirements. GMPCS Places Order for Broadband Terminals

GMPCS Personal Communications placed an initial order with Hughes Network Systems for 1,000 HNS 9201 broadband satellite IP terminals for use with Inmarsat’s Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) mobile satellite service. The deal with Hughes makes GMPCS the first satellite communications service provider to place an order for the terminals that will usher in the new global broadband service anticipated to begin in late 2005. The capabilities of BGAN will include the delivery of Internet and intranet content and solutions, LAN and WAN connectivity, video on demand, videoconferencing, fax, e-mail, phone and local area network access at speeds of up to 492 kbps.

Inmarsat Accelerates into Hand-held Satphone Market

Inmarsat and ACeS International Limited (ACeS) announced a collaboration to offer low-cost hand-held and fixed voice services, initially in the Asian market with extended coverage expected in early 2007 by combining satellite resources. Under the agreement, Inmarsat will assume responsibility for satellite and network operations, wholesale service provision, as well as product and service development. ACeS will focus on distribution of MSS products in the Asian land and maritime markets and will become a distributor of Inmarsat’s BGAN services. using the existing Inmarsat-4 satellite covering Asia and further intends to deploy a fullyglobal service within two years.

Telenor Launches BGAN Service

Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway, announced that its Broadband Global Area Network Service (BGAN) is commercially available to customers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. BGAN is a global, mobile service designed to provide voice and broadband data simultaneously and is the latest addition to the Telenor Portfolio of Broadband, On Demand and Value Added Services. Telenor Satellite Services also offers Terralink, an IP networking platform and Global Points of Presence (PoP) Network. The Telenor BGAN PoP located in Norway is an integrated part of the Inmarsat BGAN Core Network and is connected to the Inmarsat Satellite Access Station through high-capacity leased lines.

Telenor BGAN Service Ready for Launch

Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway announced the completion of all Inmarsat requirements -- technical, commercial and distribution -- necessary for the successful launch of BGAN. Inmarsat BGAN is the world's first global, mobile service to provide voice and broadband data simultaneously.
