Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation announced a contract award from the U.S. Navy to manufacture, integrate and install its newest digital audio intercommunication system for forty-seven of the Navy's P-3C Orion aircraft. The Naval Air System Command selected Telephonics Corporation under its P-3 Critical Obsolescence Program as the aircraft intercommunication system integrator and supplier of its Secure Digital Intercommunication system. Telephonics will supply the digital intercom, design, integrate and manufacture the aircraft installation kits and manage the installation for the fleet upgrade under the contract. The contract is valued in excess of $20 million. The Telephonics Secure Digital Intercommunication system, which is currently deployed on over 30 platforms for U.S. and International military applications, will provide secure communications for the 12 crewmembers on the P-3 aircraft. The small, lightweight and highly reliable digital system will replace the obsolete AIC-22 equipment providing the Navy with modern communications that meets all of the system requirements and is easily upgraded to meet emerging requirements.
