U.S.-based SEACOR Marine has completed the installation of a hybrid power system on its platform supply vessel (PSV) SEACOR Yangtze.Beginning in February 2024 in Norway, Kongsberg Maritime started the upgrade of the UT771 CDL SEACOR Yangtze with the Deckhouse Energy Storage System.The installation of the system has been completed, SEACOR Marine informed on April 4, 2024, adding to its fleet of hybrid battery-powered PSVs.To remind, SEACOR Marine announced it will convert four other of its PSVs to battery hybrid power in a move to enhance efficiency and slash emissions.The Houston-headquartered

SEACOR Marine announced it will convert four of its platform supply vessels (PSV) to battery hybrid power in a move to enhance efficiency and slash emissions.The Houston-headquartered marine transportation firm said on Thursday it has ordered containerized energy storage systems (ESS) from Norway's Kongsberg Maritime for install aboard SEACOR Ohio, SEACOR Alps, SEACOR Andes and SEACOR Atlas.The four 278.4-foot-long PSVs are all of Kongsberg Maritime's UT771 CDL design and were built in China from 2018 to 2020.

Danish shipping company Norden said it has sold the 2011-built product tanker Nord Andes to an unnamed Asian buyer just 10 months after the vessel was acquired.The sale comes after the vessel was purchased by Norden in December 2019, and underlines Norden’s strategy to be an asset-trading company, Norden said.“We are driven by the opportunities we see in the market to continuously optimize our fleet,” said Jan Rindbo, CEO, Norden. “Having generated excellent revenues on the vessel during a strong market, we have now sold Nord Andes at roughly the same level as the purchase price, which is an agile asset trade within just 10 months.”The tanker market experienced a significant spike in earnings in the first half of 2020 due to increased demand for floating storage…

The offshore marine support vessels operator Seacor Marine Holdings announced it has entered into definitive agreements to acquire three platform supply vessels (PSVs) from Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry, an affiliate of Cosco Shipping Group, the world’s largest ship owner.Aggregate consideration for the vessels will be approximately $46 million, of which 30% will be paid in cash and 70% will be paid under a four-year deferred payment agreement between Seacor   Marine and Cosco Zhoushan.Half of the cash payment will be funded in the first quarter of 2019 with the balance per vessel to be paid upon physical delivery of each vessel. Brazil has shelved a planned railway to ship commodities destined for China through Peru as it was too costly and faced "absurd" engineering challenges, a Brazilian official said. The 5,000-km (3,300-mile) railway over the Andes to the Pacific coast, announced during a visit by President Xi Jinping in 2014, was meant to speed up soybean and iron ore exports to China at a lower cost by bypassing the Panama Canal. But at an estimated cost of $80 billion, the railway would not be commercially viable if it transported just commodities and not more valuable goods, Jorge Arbache, vice planning minister for international affairs, told Reuters in an interview late on Thursday. Peru also opposed the planned route that cut through one of the country's most important nature reserves, he said.

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 34-year-old man from a 600-foot bulk carrier 10 miles offshore in the Brownsville Anchorage, off South Padre Island, Texas on Monday morning. At approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, the vessel shipping agent contacted Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders and reported a crewmember on the Global Andes was experiencing symptoms from a preexisting heart condition. The ship's captain requested a Coast Guard medevac upon arrival to the Brownsville Anchorage the next morning because the ship was still 130 miles at sea.

Reservoirs are notoriously tricky to maintain: from the surrounding area plenty of sand and silt is brought in by the river and the material deposits at the dam. As reservoirs are usually rather deep, dredging can be quite a challenge. For the Tablachaca dam in Peru another challenge was added; the location high up in the Andes required a modular dredger due to transport restrictions. The DOP Dredger proved to be the perfect solution, according to its builder. The various components of the modular DOP Dredger are limited in size to ensure all could be transported by road.

A revolutionary new option to scrapping for younger panamax containerships deemed too small for a tradelane involves widening the vessel rather than adding length. The enlargement operation of MSC Geneva was held at the Chinese shipyard Huarun Dadong (HRDD). The ship was cut in half, lengthwise, and he was added to a central section three rows of containers. MAN Diesel & Turbo received an order for three MAN 6L21/31 gensets to power a wellboat newbuilding for Patagonia Wellboat, the Chilean fish-farming operator. The order is the latest in a long history of wellboat references for MAN Diesel & Turbo in Chile’s domestic fish-farming industry, the company said. The new wellboat, to be built at Asenav in Valdivia, Chile, will be the first vessel in a new generation of wellboats designed and developed by Asenav in cooperation with Patagonia Wellboat. Engine delivery is scheduled for Q4 2015 with vessel delivery expected May 2016.

Man-made greenhouse gas emissions have become the dominant cause of melting in glaciers from the Alps to the Andes that is raising world sea levels, a study said on Thursday. Human emissions accounted for an estimated 69 percent of loss of ice from glaciers from 1991-2010, overtaking natural climate variations that had been the main driver of a retreat since the mid-19th century, researchers wrote in the journal Science. Holders of Argentina's  defaulted debt and their supporters have warned the country risks being frozen out from international capital markets unless it finds a way to solve its legal problems by the July 30 deadline. But away from the bad-tempered litigation in U.S. courts, which has dominated the news about Argentina for months, the country is experiencing an oil drilling boom as international companies seek to cash on its huge shale resources. In June, there was an average of 107 rigs drilling for oil or gas in the country, the highest number operating since records began in 1982, and more than double the number at the start of 2012, according to oil field services company Baker Hughes (Chart 1). Most were hunting for oil rather than gas.

Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) has entered into a new medium-term charter arrangement with PMI, the state owned oil company of Mexico. Under the terms of the agreement, TEN has chartered its newly delivered coated double-hulled Panamax, the Aztec, to PMI. The contract is for 30 months at an accretive rate. TEN currently has the Handysize product carrier Libra chartered to PMI until 2005. "We are pleased to furnish PMI with another high-quality vessel to serve their growing production needs," said Nikolas Tsakos, President and CEO of TEN. The Panamax Aztec was delivered on May 29 from Imabari Shipyards in Japan. The vessel immediately entered into a profitable repositioning voyage with a major oil trading concern, and will then commence the time charter with PMI.

Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) announced that the time charter agreement for the product carrier Pella has been renewed. For the third consecutive year, the Pella will be directly employed at an attractive rate to a major South American oil concern. "This contract further illustrates how TEN is continuing its established practice of maintaining a balanced fleet employment profile with spot voyages and medium to long-term accretive charters," stated Nikolas P. Tsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) has reported unaudited results for the second quarter and first half of 2003. Net revenues for the second quarter of 2003 were $61.5 million, a 122% increase over the $27.8 million generated in the second quarter of 2002. This increase reflected the expansion in the fleet (average number of vessels of 25.4 in 2003 vs. 17.0 in 2002) as well as the strong charter market. Net income for the second quarter of 2003 was a record $18.7 million versus $2.2 million in the second quarter of 2002. Earnings per share were a record $1.08 as compared with $0.13 per share in the like period of 2002. Utilizing shallow draft push boats the Naviera Fluvial Colombiana SA has the capacity to move one million tonnes of oil per year in addition to 700,000 tonnes of general freight.
