Lauritzen Bulkers to Test Decision-Making Tool

This story spans a long period of time, but begins with a note I received recently on an earlier column from a reader named Allan Berger. He commented on the OODA loop concept in my â€œPondering Truths in Design” column in the September MREN issue.He provided his approach that closely follows the OODA loop concept, which follows the principle of always gathering all the facts before speaking. That led to a discussion on decision making. Decision making is an extremely important concept that sets the course of human development, and is central to effective engineering.

KR Completes Hull Survey Using Aerial and Crawler Drones

The Korean Register (KR) said it has completed its first hull inspection survey using both aerial and crawler drones for the intermediate survey of bulk carrier Pan Global.The survey, which was completed Tuesday with the assistance of POSSM Co, Korea’s largest ship management company, and HST Technology, who provided the remote inspection technology.KR’s surveyors have been using remote inspection technology such as drones for surveys since 2017. The equipment allows the surveyor to inspect the vessel without requiring direct access.

Drewry, Cargosmart Expand Cooperation

Shipping consultancy Drewry and shipment management software solutions provider CargoSmart have expanded their cooperation agreement to cover a broader exchange of market intelligence data on the container shipping market. EU Funds LNG Bunkering Study

Studies on liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering infrastructure in Spain and France get EU grant. The European Union will support with just over €1 million from the TEN-T Programme a series of studies to analyse the potential introduction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in Spain and France. The studies, selected for funding under the 2012 TEN-T Multi-Annual Call, aim at determining the feasibility of implementing LNG bunkering facilities in the Port of Roscoff (northwest France) and the Port of Santander (northern Spain).

Pipeline Damage Assessment Tool Launched

Tecnitas, the marine advisory arm of leading international classification and verification group Bureau Veritas (BV), has launched a new technology simulation system for pipeline damage assessment, in collaboration with Total. This system, EMPREINTE, helps pipeline operators to determine safe operating pressures after a pipeline is damaged. It is a software suite which provides a decision making tool which, according to BV, aims to save operators money and cut downtime for pipeline repairs.

Lloyd’s Register’s was awarded the EIC Supply Chain Excellence Award 2013, at the annual Energy Industries Council (EIC) award summit, held at The Natural History Museum in London, U.K., on October 10. The CSL Group Installs Veson

Veson Nautical, a US-based developer of software solutions for the commercial maritime community, announced that installation of its IMOS Chartering Module has been completed for The CSL Group of companies. “We researched offerings from all the major vendors in this market and selected Veson Nautical to replace some of our ‘homegrown’ tools for a number of reasons,” explained Kevin Johnston, Director of Information Technology for the CSL Group. “Veson was very responsive to our needs, developing a custom interface that easily incorporated their solution into our existing systems as well as developing other required customizations.
