Volvo Penta Expands in Americas

Service technicians from five countries just completed an in-depth two-week training class conducted by Volvo Penta of the Americas in Panama, as part of an ongoing program to expand and upgrade its marine dealer network in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Volvo Penta holds similar training schools for dealer technicians several times a year in the region. All the classes are conducted in Spanish and give practical hands-on instruction in diagnosis and repair of Volvo Penta marine engines and drives. The participating technicians in the most recent service school represented dealers in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Panama.

Today in U.S. 1973 - First woman to hold a major Navy command, Captain Robin Lindsay Quigley assumes command of Navy Service School, San Diego, CA. 1987 - USS Stark (FFG-31) struck by Iraqi Exocet missile in Persian Gulf, killing 37 Sailors. 21 were wounded. 1940 - FDR announces plans to recommission 35 more destroyers. 1942 - USS Tautog (SS 199) sinks Japanese sub, I-28; while USS Triton (SS 201) sinks I-164. 1951 - Aircraft from carriers attack bridges between Wonsan and Hamhung, Korea. 1962 - Naval amphibious ready group lands Marines to guard Thailand's borders from Communist probes. 1966 - Naval Support Activity Saigon established. 1973 - First woman to hold a major Navy command, Capt. Thibault Joins J.A. Moody in Florida

Kevin J. Thibault has joined J.A. Moody Equipment Specialist, Inc., as senior technician at their new on-board repair service center in Atlantic Beach, Fla. Distributor for over 10 leading manufacturers of marine industry products, Moody offers technical field services for electric and hydraulic actuators and hand pump stations. A graduate of several actuator and hand pump station manufacturer's training programs as well as the U.S. Navy's class A Service School, Thibault will supervision the company's onboard grooming and repair services, which include: vision inspection to determine failed condition, minor adjustments, written condition reports with repair estimates, and repair with OEM parts.
