ASA Announces New Leadership for 2011-2013

Tim Beaver, CEO of Global Diving & Salvage, and ASA President

Tim Beaver, Chief Executive Officer of Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., has been elected President of the American Salvage Association at its recent meeting in Arlington, VA, October 5, 2011. Beaver succeeds Mauricio Garrido, who served as President from 2009-2011. Paul Hankins, Donjon-SMIT, LLC, has been elected Vice President. Todd Schauer, Resolve Marine Group, has been named Secretary/Treasurer.“This new leadership team will serve to energize the ASA’s approach to the diverse fronts tackled by the ASA,” said Beaver.

Capt. Habib Appointed Titan VP

Rich Habib has been appointed vice president of Titan Salvage with responsibility for the company's overall performance, including operations, administration, finance and commercial activities. He is domiciled at Titan's headquarters in Pompano Beach, Fla., and reports to Todd Busch, Crowley Maritime Corporation's senior vice president and general manager of technical services. Titan is a Crowley subsidiary. "I am very pleased to welcome Rich back to Titan," said Busch. "He began as one of our jack-up barge superintendents and then became a salvage master.

McAllister Joins Marine Response Alliance

The directors of Marine Response Alliance LLC (MRA or Alliance) announced that McAllister Towing and Transportation Co., Inc. (McAllister) has joined the MRA as a full and equal member. McAllister is now united with the other MRA member companies—Crowley Marine Services, Inc. (Crowley), Marine Pollution Control Corporation (MPC), Titan Maritime LLC (Titan) and Marine Hazard Response (MHR)  (a joint venture of Wild Well Control, Inc. and Williams Fire and Hazard Control, Inc.) to provide OPA-90 Salvage and Marine Firefighting services to the maritime community.

Titan Salvage introduced more than 200 guests to its newest salvage response facility in western Singapore on Oct. 16. The reception celebrated the opening of the 45,000 sq ft, self-contained facility, which will serve as Titan's corporate office in the region. The complex features a fully equipped workshop to service and repair Titan's extensive inventory of salvage equipment, a dedicated diving equipment workshop and specialized storage and equipment handling space. Titan Salvage Caps Busy First Quarter

With the arrival of calmer springtime weather, Titan Salvage has resumed wreck removal operations in Gibraltar on the New Flame following a busy first quarter in which the company responded to eight salvage opportunities. Among them were the re-floating of the bulk carrier Fedra's forward section in Gibraltar, the re-floating of a general cargo vessel grounded on environmentally-sensitive coral reefs of southern Belize; and the safe delivery of a tank ship involved in a collision and fire off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Titan - Schwall VP, Reed General Manager

Titan Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corporation's salvage and wreck removal company, announced that Dan Schwall has been promoted to vice president and Phil Reed has been promoted to general manager, salvage and engineering. What Happened to the Hunley?

Since its sinking on February 17, 1864, researchers and historians have pondered the above question for more than a century. What we do know, however is that a piece of Civil War history had been lying on the floor of Charleston Harbor off the coast of South Carolina. For all this time, no one, except showman P.T. Barnum (he once offered a $100,000 for the Hunley's recover during the 19th Century) had attempted to recover the doomed sub. Things changed however about 20 years ago, when American author, Clive Cussler, decided that he would try to explain the unexplained — he and his crew of divers from the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) ventured into the Charleston Harbor determined to locate the Confederate sub.
