Tognum to Reduce Size of Executive Board

In January 2011, the first step taken by Tognum to establish a new global sales organisation came into force. The new organization is designed to improve the service and support provided for the company’s existing customers and above all to acquire new customers worldwide for its broadly diversified product portfolio. Peter Kneipp (53) joined MTU Friedrichshafen in 1989 as a project manager for marine propulsion systems. At an early stage in his career, Peter Kneipp was involved in projects that enabled him to acquire experience in the Asia-Pacific region, where he has worked since 1997 until the end of 2010. He initially spent several years in Singapore, where he was mainly involved in customer service and after sales.

Tognum Expands Production Network

Friedrichshafen, 21 March 2011. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum is expanding its production capacity in Europe. Dieter Royal New CFO at Tognum

Friedrichshafen, 16 March 2011. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum decided at the meeting of the Supervisory Board on 14 March 2011, that Dieter Royal (47) will join the Executive Board as the new member responsible for the Finance and Corporate Services Division effective 1 October 2011. Dieter Royal succeeds Joachim Coers (46) as CFO, who replaces Volker Heuer (58) as CEO of the Tognum Group as of 1 October 2011. As announced in April of last year, Volker Heuer will then terminate his contract and go into retirement.

Tognum, Norinco Opens Engine, Genset Facility in China

Tognum, the specialist for propulsion and power solutions, and China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) have held a ceremony in the Chinese city of Datong to mark the opening of a joint undertaking involving the assembly of large, high-speed MTU diesel engines and emergency standby gensets. Datong is located around 300 kilometers west of Beijing in Shanxi Province. Tognum subsidiary MTU Asia Pte. Ltd. and the Norinco Group Company Shanxi Diesel Engine Industry Corporation (SDEIC) are jointventure partners. SDEIC has been manufacturing MTU engines under license since 1986.

Tognum Completes First Quarter as Expected

The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum has completed the first three months of the current financial year in line with expectations and confirms its forecast for the full year. “Despite the modest quarterly revenues as expected, we managed to achieve an adjusted EBIT margin of 8.4%,” said Volker Heuer, chairman of the executive board of Tognum AG. The company continues to expect an adjusted EBIT margin (adjusted return on sales) of 6 to 9%, with revenues of €2.3 to 2.5 billion. In the medium term, Tognum intends to grow faster than the market and achieve a double-digit return on sales. “We are currently observing positive signs, primarily in our after sales business, in the oil and gas industry and in distributed energy systems,” Heuer added.

Tognum 2008 Results & 2009 Outlook

Tognum, a specialist for propulsion and power solutions, reported its 2008 results and 2009 outlook. In the financial year 2009, the financial and economic crisis will also have a negative impact on Tognum’s markets and its business performance. However, the company does expect to see a return to sustained growth rates in the medium term resulting once again in double-digit EBIT margins on average. “In 2009, our successful business model will face completely new challenges,” stated Volker Heuer, chairman of Tognum AG’s Executive Board. “In terms of our revenues for 2009, we anticipate scenarios of 2 minus 10 to minus 20 percent compared with 2008.

Tognum Has a New Major Shareholder

approximately 22% stake in Tognum AG – which it held through the company Seeker Rekees S.à r.l. – to Daimler AG. Daimler’s Supervisory Board approved the acquisition of this shareholding. Tognum AG. The entire transaction is subject to the approval of antitrust and other authorities. Tognum’s Board of Management welcomes this decision of Daimler and EQT. CEO Volker Heuer stated: “We are delighted that Daimler AG fully supports Tognum’s growth strategy – as a reliable business associate and now also as a strategic investor. corporate strategy focused on profitable growth and today’s independence. Less than one year after the initial public offering, the previously open question of what would happen to EQT’s remaining stake has been successfully resolved.

Heuer to Take Helm at MTU

Dr. Rolf A. Hanssen, after more than 10 years as CEO of MTU and Head of the DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway Business Unit, will terminate his contract as planned with effect from December 31, 2004. The Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG and the Supervisory Board of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH have selected Volker Heuer, who is currently still Presidente de los Centros Industriales of Mercedes-Benz Espana S. A., to take over as the CEO of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH and Head of the DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway Business Unit, effective August 1, 2004

MTU Detroit Diesel Formed

MTU Friedrichshafen (Germany) and Detroit Diesel Corporation (USA) announced the formation of a new division for Off-Highway engine activities, MTU Detroit Diesel. The group will continue to be headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. MTU Detroit Diesel will be a separate division of Detroit Diesel Corporation and will be an integral part of DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway. MTU Detroit Diesel will have responsibility for the application engineering, manufacturing, sale and service for off-highway engine products in marine, construction, industrial, power generation, petroleum and defense markets in the United States, Canada and Mexico. MTU Detroit Diesel was formed through a longstanding partnership between MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH and Detroit Diesel Corporation dating back to 1994.

MTU to Build Engines in China

One year after the foundation was laid for the MTU Group’s new facility in the Chinese city of Suzhou, a ceremony marked the start of local assembly of MTU Series 2000 diesel engines. The facility is located in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) around 100 km north-west of Shanghai and the gensets assembled there, exclusively for the Chinese market, are earmarked for service in decentralized power generation plants. The MTU Group has been marketing engines in China for more than 40 years, and this latest project reflects the lively domestic demand for power generation units, several hundred of which will leave the gates of the MTU factory in Suzhou every year in future.
