Robert (Bob) Maxwell, managing director of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Singapore (BSM), has died after a three-year battle with cancer, the maritime services company said. "It is with the greatest sadness that BSM delivers the heart-breaking news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Bob Maxwell, Managing Director of the Singapore office. Bob left us on Monday, 26th March after a long struggle with cancer," said a statement from the company. He had a remarkable career in shipping and his contributions to the industry were formidable. Bob trained as a Mechanical Engineer at Southampton College of Higher Education. He started his career at sea in 1988 as a 2nd Engineer and in 1993 became a Chief Engineer officer sailing on bulk carriers ranging from 149,000 to 186,000 tonnes.

BSM announced the passing of dear friend and colleague Robert (Bob) Maxwell, Managing Director of the Singapore office. Bob passed away on Monday, 26th March after a long struggle with cancer. He had a remarkable career in shipping and his contributions to the industry were formidable. Bob trained as a Mechanical Engineer at Southampton College of Higher Education. He started his career at sea in 1988 as a 2nd Engineer and in 1993 became a Chief Engineer officer sailing on bulk carriers ranging from 149,000 to 186,000 tonnes. A few years later, in 1996, he joined Hanseatic Shipping as a Chief Engineer sailing on large containerships and gas carriers. Bob was passionate about shipping, so he continued his journey within the industry devoting his time to his professional development.

Rajaish Bajpaee will hand over CEO responsibility of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) to his current deputy, Capt. Norbert Aschmann, through planned succession at the end of December 2014 after more than 27 at the Schulte Group. Bajpaee will then take up the position of Chairman in a nonexecutive capacity, with effect from January 1, 2015, where he will support the continued success of BSM. Bajpaee joined the Eurasia Group of Companies in 1987, commencing as Deputy General Manager before being promoted to the position of President & CEO.

There has been change in the shareholding at Portugal’s Lisnave following discussions between Germany’s German Industrial Group (GIG) and Portugal’s Estudos e Projectos Navais SA (Navivessel). The original agreement between these two companies included the possibility, if certain conditions and events were met, that GIG would acquire an additional stake of 40% of Lisnave’s share capital, thus obtaining control of the company. However, it has been decided that GIG would not increase its existing share capital and that Navivessel would acquire the 20% share capital acquired by GIG during 2002. In September the shipyard completed repairs on nine vessels with various descriptions on the jobs performed. Standard shiprepair jobs were performed on the 8,945 dwt reefer vessel Hudson Bay, owned by German company Thien & Heyenga, and the 5,782 dwt LPG vessel Gas Century, managed by Cyprus based Hanseatic Shipping. The 18,582 dwt product tanker Calitea, owned by CA LI SA, Italy underwent standard drydock works continuing the good cooperation between the shipyard and the owner (the vessel has been under repair and conversion several times in Viktor Lenac during the last few years). TOP Tankers Inc the owner of the double hull 154,970 dwt M/T Flawless, announced that on January 23, 2006, the vessel reported a minor fuel oil overflow on the vessel's deck to the Estonian Environmental Inspectorate. The incident occurred when the vessel was in international waters having departing Tallinn, Estonia, and after loading a cargo of fuel oil. The overflow occurred when bunker fuel was being transferred between tanks, and was estimated at between 1.5 and 2.0 cubic meters. The overflow was contained on deck and the crew immediately began clean-up procedures. As the vessel is presently in transit, the Company's superintendents have not been able to inspect the vessel since the overflow incident.

Two ships are currently at Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH in Hamburg and both were booked in at very short notice, one for rudder repairs and the other for the repair of engine damage. GT: 29.739) from Columbus Shipmanagement (Hamburg Süd) is in Dock 11. Its rudder bearings are being replaced and the rudder blade repaired. In addition a completely new rudder head is being fitted. All of that is happening inside three weeks, which is about the time a shipyard would normally need just to arrange delivery of the parts. The ship is due to leave B + V Repair on November 23rd. The general cargo vessel DJURDJURA (length over all 125,45m, breadth: 17,30m, GT: 5.389) belonging to Algerian shipowner CNAN shipping is meanwhile at Berth 15 for repair of her cooling water pumps and other things.
