ABB’s Schwarz Honored with USMMA McCready Award

Totem Terminal Named in Memory of Robert Magee

Legendary maritime and Pierce County community leader, Robert P. Magee, was honored September 21, 2011 with the naming of Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc’s Tacoma terminal in his memory. The Robert P. Magee Terminal dedication ceremony at Port of Tacoma was attended by about 150 industry and community leaders, extended family members, TOTE customers and employees who gathered to pay tribute to a man many described as visionary. After Bob’s death in November 2009, TOTE employees rallied around the idea of honoring Bob’s memory with a tribute.

Totem Ocean Trailer Express Names Tacoma Terminal

Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. Names Tacoma Terminal In Memory of Legendary Leader. Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc.’s (TOTE) Tacoma Terminal has been named the Robert P. Magee Marine Terminal in memory of and tribute to TOTE’s legendary leader. The new name is proudly displayed on signs at each gated entrance to the terminal, as well as in front of the administration building. A formal dedication ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the TOTE Terminal at the Port of Tacoma. Bob Magee began working for TOTE in May 1986 as Vice President of Marine Operations.

Waryas Receives Lauren S. McCready Award

Ed Waryas, Vice President & Marine Development Manager for Lloyd’s Register North America, Inc. has received the Lauren S. McCready Award for 2009. This award is presented annually by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association for “Outstanding Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering Contributions to the Maritime Industry.”  The award recognizes alumni who are members of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and who have made significant technical achievements possible. It is named for Rear Admiral Lauren S.

Totem Enters Into Agreement With NASSCO

Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE) of Anchorage, Alaska, has come to an agreement with National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) for the construction of two RoRo vessels for its Alaska service. Measuring 839 ft. (255.7 m), the vessels are scheduled for delivery during late 2002. According to Robert P. "These ships, which carry more than 50 percent more cargo than our present ships, are designed specifically to endure the harsh conditions of the Alaska trade," Magee added. The new vessels will be the same size as TOTE's existing three ships, "while remaining extra capacity to fulfill any surge cargo needs and allow for seamless service during dry docks," Magee furthered.

A recent swing through the vibrant Gulf of Mexico region helped to quantify the strides that have been made. In particular, much capital has been expended in improving the capabilities processing and cutting steel.

NASSCO and TOTE Christen the M. V. North Star

National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has joined with Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. (TOTE) to christen the M. V. North Star. The North Star is the second of two new Orca-class trailerships being built by NASSCO for TOTE's service from Tacoma, Washington, to Anchorage, Alaska. Lu Young, wife of Alaska Congressman Don Young (R- Alaska), and Marie Magee, wife of Robert P. Magee Jr., president and CEO of TOTE , were the ship's sponsors.
