Transas Expands Capabilities

Relying on experience from more than 4,000 Navi-Sailor installations around the world, Transas Marine has added a number of features to further enhance the functionality of its Navi-Sailor marine navigation systems. Transas' ongoing R&D efforts are primarily focused on expanded integration with other systems, in providing a wider range of data which can be displayed on the electronic chart screen; and development and improvement of chart plotting features and presentation. Seamless integration between navigational software and VDR provides for instantaneous display of all vessel parameters during the entire sailing duration. Transas Earns ECDIS Type Approval

Transas Marine has become the first company in the world to receive type approval for its NAVI-SAILOR 2400 ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System). The news is considered significant achievement for the company, which has been at the forefront of ECDIS development since the IMO Resolution in 1995 that allowed ECDIS to be used as conventional ships bridge equipment. Type approval has been given by what many consider to be the most prestigious national authority, the BSH (Bundesamt fuer Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie) in Germany. Transas has been working closely with the BSH to ensure that all requirements have been scrupulously checked for compliance with all international standards during the type approval procedure.

Transas Advances The Navigation Process

The ECDIS era has arrived, with the type-approval of systems from Transas Marine. Transas' Jochen Rudolf and George Toma discuss the systems capabilities, advantages and future. The advent of the type-approved ECDIS has become one of the major highlights of the maritime industry at the end of the 20th century. Transas Marine with its Navi-Sailor 2400 ECDIS, was the winner amongst some 10 very serious competitors in the rigorous race to be the first to receive the type-approval certificate for ECDIS from BSH in Germany. The issue of the world's first type approval certificate for Transas ECDIS in October 1999 was preceded by almost two years of very thorough tests and expert assessments employed at BSH.
