USACE Approves Derecktor's Plan for New Megayacht Yard

Plans to convert the nearly 100-year-old Port of Fort Pierce into a full-service repair and refit facility for the global fleet of megayachts cleared a significant hurdle, Derecktor Shipyards announced.After 11 months of review, the engineering and plans for Derecktor Ft. Damen Sharjah wins Best Yard Award

On 29 May at the presentation ceremony for the International Maritime Awards, held at the two-day Shiptek 2016 conference in Dubai, Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSSh) received the prize for Best New Building Yard. The trophy was accepted at the ceremony by DSSh managing director Lars Seistrup. DSSh is a joint venture between the Damen Shipyards Group and Albwardy Investment, bringing Damen quality and skills to the UAE. The new yard has the facilities to repair and construct all type of vessels, and has recently delivered tugs, workboats, support vessels, dredgers, landing craft, floating docks, barges and pontoons, to operators in and around the Arabian Gulf.

Damen to Build Rotortug Pair for Elisabeth Ltd.

Rotortug said that Elisabeth Ltd. has placed a new building order with Damen Shipyards for the construction of two Hybrid Advanced Rotortugs, ART 80-32 of 80 tons bollard pull. imultaneously Elisabeth Ltd ordered two ART 80-32, with Fifi 1, at Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd. They  will be the first series of Rotortugs to be built at Damen Shipyards and Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd and will be added to the Kotug fleet. This ART 80-32 is the  third Rotortug design originating from  the co-operation between Rotortug and Robert Allan Ltd and the follow up on the first Hybrid Rotortug ever…

Transas Equips Brodospolit Tanker

Transas has delivered a comprehensive equipment set to the first of two P-960 project tankers to be built at the Brodosplit Shipyard, Croatia. The equipment contract for the two 108,000 tons displacement tanker new buildings was signed in November 2002. M/T “Sakhalin Island” is supplied with a complete Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS, designed in compliance with the latest IMO regulations for UAIS interface, and is enhanced with navigational consoles, ARPA/Radar and Navi-Conning display.

Bridge and Ship Collide in the Black Rock Canal

The Coast Guard responded to the collision between the small passenger vessel MISS BUFFALO II and the International Railroad Swing Bridge located on the Black Rock Canal, four miles north of downtown Buffalo on June 5. Following a tour of the Buffalo water front area, the passenger vessel was returning to its dock with 175 persons onboard including 120 school children from Maple West Elementary School in Williamsville, N.Y., parents, teachers and the vessels crew. At approximately 11 a..m., the 82-foot passenger vessel passed through the International Railroad swing bridge, along with two other vessels, when the bridge began to close. Part of the bridge hit the canopy of the boat, collapsing it on to the passengers and injuring two adults and one child.
