Mantel Joins Theyr Ltd,

Theyr Ltd, a London based met-ocean data provider to the maritime sectors are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Mantel as a Non-Executive Director.In his role he will be defining and implementing the commercial shipping strategy offering Theyr’s High Fidelity Met Ocean Data and Optimization Services that will drive the digital transformation in shipping.Mantel previously helped pioneer the transformation from paper to electronic chart navigation as a Director and Shareholder of Transas Marine Ltd.

Furuno USA Hires Toma

Furuno USA has hired a new commercial business development manager. Based in Houston, Texas, Mr. George Toma will play a key role in establishing and developing business relationships with commercial ship owners, operators, and builders around the country to promote the Furuno product line.Toma comes to Furuno with forty years of experience in the maritime industry. He has served on the Board of Directors for RTCM (Radio Technical Commission for Maritimes), and received the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award in 2013 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association.

Frank Coles has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors for Transas Marine, a provider of equipment, software and system integration for the maritime industry. A maritime business professional, Coles brings to the position leadership experience in maritime operations and technology. Coles recently served as an advisor to a number of blue chip private equity companies on maritime opportunities. Before that, he was the President of Inmarsat Maritime, and was previously CEO of Globe Wireless.

Transas T-Bridge Installed on Ice Class Vessels

Transas Marine informs it has installed and commissioned the Transas T-Bridge integrated bridge systems aboard three ice class vessels built by Keppel Singmarine, the specialized shipbuilding subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine. Transas supplied Integrated Bridge Systems including full navigation systems, external and internal communication systems and CCTV. Transas said its T-Bridge is designed to add further safety to navigation, simplify bridge operations and offers a flexible bridge configuration.

Argentinian Center Installs Engine Room Simulator

Buenos Aires, Argentina. Transas Marine has delivered its leading Engine Room Simulator ERS 5000 TechSim to the Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Center for Marine Engineer Officers and Chief Engineers is the corporate and trade association that brings together Merchant Navy Officers specialising in machinery. These professionals are responsible for the operation, maintenance, management and troubleshooting of all technical elements on merchant ships. The simulator complex consists of a classroom for training in diesel propulsion, steam and ASD tug plants with eight workstations, a classroom for training in refrigerating plants operation with four trainee workstations.

Transas Shifts Sole Focus to Maritime Sector

Arranging new changes to its brand positioning, the Transas Group informs it will now focus its efforts solely in the maritime market. The group’s shareholders made the decision to focus the Transas brand on the maritime business only, taking into account the success of Transas and its brand awareness in the maritime IT market and dominating position in several key segments of this market, Transas explained. Transas Marine has teamed up with Shipping Guides Ltd (UK) to incorporate port data within the Transas Navi-Planner 4000. The Navi-Planner Port overlay displays port information for viewing on a chart panel or in tabular format. Port data can be ordered and updated directly through Navi-Planner to assist passage planning to all ports on your route. The port database locates more than 9,000 ports, harbors, terminals and marine facilities around the world. ECDIS to be Installed on 100 plus Maersk Vessels

Maersk Line selected Transas Marine for  ECDIS implementation on  more than 100 vessels. The contract features Transas state-of-the-art Navi-Sailor ECDIS 4000 in dual configuration plus a back-up station on each vessel. According to the agreement signed between Maersk Line and Transas Marine, existing systems will be upgraded to the latest version of the Transas Navi-Sailor ECDIS Multifunction Display with 2 ECDIS stations plus a back-up installed on each vessel, making all vessels ready for paperless operation. The installations are planned to start in summer of 2015. Transas Simulator Installed at the Istanbul University

Istanbul University has received a multipurpose simulator complex from Transas Marine. The package includes a full mission navigational simulator NTPRO 5000 and a four-workplace multifunction simulator class that will enable training in shiphandling, radio-communication and liquid cargo handling operations. Transas Upgrades Simulator Complex in Batumi

On November 27, 2014, President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and President of Latvia Andris Berzins visited Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) opened the renovated simulation center. The Full Mission Offshore simulator, which has become the extension of the existing simulation complex, has been developed and installed by the Transas Marine. The full mission Transas offshore simulator with 270 degrees visualization is based on the Transas NTPRO 5000 software and will be used for training in dynamic positioning operations.

Transas Installs ECDIS Simulators at Romanian University

Transas Marine has installed the ECDIS simulator class at the Constanța Maritime University (CMU), one of the first maritime schools in Romania to launch simulator-based courses to train bridge watchkeeping officers and other personnel in safe and efficient use of ECDIS in full compliance with the STCW 2010. KVH, Transas Team Up for Electronic Charts Update

KVH Industries, Inc., and Transas announced today a strategic relationship designed to ensure vessels at sea receive affordable, timely updates of mandatory electronic chart data. The CHARTlink channel of KVH’s IP-MobileCast content delivery service will support delivery of chart and other data updates from Transas, a producer of electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS) and a leading provider of electronic navigation charts (ENC) and data services. This is the first of many steps envisioned by Transas for delivery of value-added data for shipboard use with the IP-MobileCast service. International maritime regulations mandate the use of ECDIS for commercial and passenger vessels.

Transas Simulators Boosts Western Shipping Training Center

Transas, MDS Win Taiwan's Coastal Surveillance Contract

Transas Marine Pacific and its local partner Mercuries Data Systems (MDS) have secured a multi-million contract from the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration for installation and commissioning of the National Coastal Surveillance System. The mission-critical system is based on the Transas Navi-Harbour software employing advanced features for accurate detection, tracking and identification of small and high-speed targets. The system will provide the Taiwan Coast Guard with real time data on any activities occurring in a coastal zone thus ensuring full control over an entire coastal area. It will help to prevent illegal activity, to protect critical onshore infrastructure from intruders and support decision-making process.

Transas ECDIS Chosen by Maersk Tankers Again

The IMO requirement has phased installation of ECDIS on board all ships, beginning July 2012. Maersk Tankers, one of the world’s largest product tanker companies, has selected Transas to address this by implementing ECDIS compliance program across the Maersk Tankers’ fleet.
