Transas Marine UK has been awarded a major contract to supply a Full Mission SAR (Search And Rescue) Simulator to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
(RNLI). The RNLI sees its future simulator complex as the worldwide “Centre of Excellence for Lifeboat Training and Rescue Operations
” capable of providing such enhanced training programs as Accelerated Learning, Refresher Courses, Crisis Management and Search and Rescue Operations.
The Transas simulator, which will be installed in the RNLI’s new training headquarters in Poole, UK, will incorporate new lifeboat models such as the Severn Class, FSB and some others designed by Transas with extreme precision to realistically simulate the customer’s actual vessels. In addition, Transas will
produce new detailed visual areas around the UK coast
to meet the RNLI’s specific training requirements.
The simulator complex will comprise a main lifeboat bridge with a 240-degree visualisation screen and a full lifeboat mock-up. The simulator will also comprise a secondary bridge that will be used as the USP (Upper Steering Position), and two PC labs with up to eight interactive modular bridges.
Using this training facility, the RNLI will carry out multi-vessel search
and rescue scenarios, incorporating helicopters and other visual enhancements such as debris, man in the water and realistic sea spray and rough weather conditions effects.
