Caterpillar to supply engine, transmission package for Chinese manufacturer's oil drill fracturing equipment

Caterpillar is  to provide engine and transmission packages to SJ Petroleum Machinery, Co., for its newest model fracturing truck. Founded in 1941, SJ Petroleum is one of China’s largest manufacturers of petroleum drilling and production equipment.

Cat® will be supplying 3512C HD engines and TH55 transmission packages to serve as the power modules for the company’s Model 2500 fracturing trucks for well service applications. These fracturing rigs are the first produced by the Chinese OEM for the China market.

The Cat 3512C HD petroleum engine for hydraulic fracturing, rated from 1678 bkW (2250 bhp) to 1864 bkW (2500 bhp) at 1900 rpm, offers customers proven reliability and durability featuring Caterpillar’s ADEM™ A3 engine management system that integrates speed control, air/fuel ratio control and ignition/detonation controls into a complete engine management system with integrated digital ignition, engine protection and monitoring.

Featuring input power of 3000 bhp (2237 bkW) and input torque of 9148 lb-ft (12403 Nm), the TH55 transmission is optimized for petroleum pumping applications. Its evenly spaced gear ratios provide smooth shifting for pumping, providing for a much broader range of pumping speeds than the competition. Its deep first gear ratio creates application flexibility, and allows pumping at lower flow rates and pressure.

“As China looks to increase its domestic and foreign drilling operations, we will be ready to provide our customers here with durable, reliable Cat engine and transmission packages with proven performance in well service and drilling applications" said  Wilton Shen, territory manager, Caterpillar Global Petroleum Asia Pacific region.
