Stena Bulk's IMOIIMAX Fleet a Success

The tanker shipping company Stena Bulk AB said that it has now had a fleet of 13 IMOIIMAX vessels of MR model on the market for a year, and an evaluation shows that the chemical vessels have been a success, both in terms of performance and business.An IMOIIMAX tanker has 18 separate tanks (3,000 m3/tank), which provides for large freedom of choice as regards combinations of cargoes. Navis Joins Aker Arctic for Ice Class DP Design

Navis Engineering Oy and Aker Arctic Technology Inc. have signed a scientific and technical cooperation agreement covering the joint development of technology for dynamic positioning (DP) systems for icebreakers and ice-class vessels. The agreement was signed in St. Petersburg during NEVA 2013 at the end of September. Dynamic positioning systems manufactured by Navis Engineering have been installed on a number of icebreakers and ice-class vessels in recent years, including the Polar supply and research icebreaker SA Agulhas II, the Canadian Coast Guard Scientific icebreaker Amundsen and the Sovcomflot-owned multifunctional icebreaking supply vessels Vitus Bering and Aleksey Chirikov, operating for Exxon Neftegaz Ltd in Sakhalin waters in Russia.

SpecTec Group Opens Newest Office In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The SpecTec Group has opened their newest office in Rio de Janeiro: officially, AMOS Brasil Sistemas de Gestão de Recursos e Consultoria de Software Ltda., or SpecTec Brazil, will serve as region headquarters. SpecTec’s new local team has been formed and includes professional technical consultants to provide project management and customer support, as well as a business development team. The region is managed by David Reyes, Managing Director, Latin America. In its 26 years of existence, AMOS has become the "de facto" standard Asset Management software in shipping, and a major player in oil & gas and energy sectors; moreover several Navies worldwide are implementing AMOS as a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software to cover their Integrated Logistic Systems aspects.

Transport Committee backs ‘Motorways of the Sea’

The Transport Committee voted on the draft report tabled by Philip Bradbourn (EPP-ED, UK) on Community guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network. Following the report last year on these guidelines by the High Level Group under Karel Van Miert, the Commission submitted to Parliament an amended proposal, adding nine new projects to those already adopted by the EP at its initial first reading. MEPs warmly backed the introduction of "motorways of the sea" to launch new regular transnational cargo shipping lines. These routes are intended to improve links with islands and enable goods traffic to avoid natural barriers such as the Alps and the Pyrenees.
