Royal IHC, the provider of design and construction for the specialist maritime sector, has been awarded another contract by Van Oord to design and supply the dredge installation for its new 10,500m3 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD).The suction pipe installation with underwater pump, two dredge pumps and three jet water pumps will be installed on the new TSHD and built in Singapore.Earlier this year, IHC was commissioned to deliver similar systems for two other Van Oord TSHDs.“We were delighted to receive this repeat order from Van Oord, a long-standing and highly valued customer of ours,” says IHC Group Executive Director Diederik van Rijn.

Dutch company Ampelmann says it has designed its latest motion compensation access system, the S-type, as a cost effective and safe option in the transportation of workers and luggage to and from offshore platforms. The company, a provider of offshore access systems to the energy industry, is launching the new Walk-to-Work system as an alternative to using helicopters or baskets. In total, the cost of using the system will be around 30 perceent cheaper than helicopters, the manufacturer said. The S-type incorporates a lightweight system that uses a low amount of energy to operate.

I put my money on June 20, that being the very last day of spring, and on June 20 the long-awaited regulation was finally published. Subchapter M doesn’t come with much we weren’t expecting, which is a good thing. Surprises in this industry are not met with enthusiasm. The USCG should be complimented in that regard.

The Harris Pye Engineering Group is currently engaged in turnkey scrubber installation packages for major cruise line companies. On August 3, 2016 Harris Pye completed the installation of an Advanced Emission Purification System, fully automated, which was duly DNV GL certified which met with MARPOL regulation 14 of Annex V1 for the control of emissions complying to regulations 14.1 or 14.4. The design package for open and closed loop systems was utilized to model and fabricate all piping systems, hardware integration, and major/minor steelworks. Along with new exhaust tail pipes, sea chests were installed with the vessel in service along with the associated overboard discharges.

The Swedish Navy together with SAAB Kockums AB has selected an active sonar suite and bottom navigation technology from Kongsberg Maritime for installation on two next generation A26 submarines, which are due for delivery no later than 2022. Scandlines ferries designed with battery hybrid propulsion to operate on the Rostock-Gedser commercial route. Corvus Energy, Siemens AS and Scandlines have announced the award of the energy storage system contract for the M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen battery hybrid ferries currently being built at the Danish shipyard FAYARD. The new vessels M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen will each use a 1,050VDC, 1.5MWh Energy Storage System (ESS) consisting of 231 Corvus Energy AT6500 advanced lithium polymer batteries. The batteries will be integrated with a Siemens converter system and together they form an Energy Storage System that will be powered by four diesel gensets (one less than a non-hybrid design).

Kongsberg Maritime AS has been awarded a Project Specific Agreement including FEED for delivery of Safety and Automation (SAS) systems to the four Johan Sverdrup field platforms by Statoil Petroleum AS. The Project Specific Agreement includes an option for delivery of Safety and Automation Equipment including detail engineering services and commissioning services. The Directors' report 2013 (extracted here) states that shipowners & technical services firm Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding group (WWH) delivered lower results for 2013 when compared with a very strong 2012. The fallback in results was due to a 7% reduction in shipping volumes and substantial sales gains impacting previous year accounts. The accounts show that operating profit slipped from $562-million in 2012 to $325-million in 2013. Wilh. Experienced lower demand for transportation of high and heavy cargoes, while auto volumes for the year were stable.

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions has secured multiple orders to supply its Maritime Protection Inert Gas Generator (IGG) systems for installation on vessels working offshore Brazil. The company will deliver a total of eight dual-fuel Maritime Protection systems via contracting partner EEP to Brazil’s national oil company Petrobras for installation onboard a quartet of Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) being converted to Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. The conversion of the VLCC hulls is scheduled take place in the Estaleiro Inhauma drydock where the IGG equipment, capable of operation both on marine diesel oil/gas oil and natural gas, will be installed.

Lone Star Geophysical Surveys buys a 4000-node ZLand seismic system from FairfieldNodal for US & Canada projects. The company previously leased ZLand system nodes for environmentally sensitive work in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Montana, and made their purchase decision based on the results they achieved there. “We have put these nodes to the test in some very challenging environments and been very impressed, both in terms of system performance and the HSE advantages they provide,” said Lone Star Geophysical Survey’s CEO and President Heath Harris.
