Fire Breaks Out Aboard USS Devastator

A fire broke out aboard the mine countermeasures ship USS Devastator (MCM 6) while the ship was pierside at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain at approximately 8 p.m. local, March 14, the U.S. Navy said. First LPG Shipped from Ichthys Project

Japan's Inpex Corp said it had sent the first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipment from its giant Ichthys project in Australia.The LPG vessel Hellas Gladiator departed the onshore liquefaction plant at the Ichthys LNG Terminal in Darwin, the company said in a statement late on Friday. Navig8 Acquires Seventh LR2 from Guangzhou Shipyard

Navig8 Product Tankers Inc. today announced that it has taken delivery of the Navig8 Gladiator, a 113,000 DWT LR2 tanker from Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (“GSI”), formerly CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Company Limited. The Navig8 Gladiator is the seventh of eight vessels contracted at GSI to be delivered to the Company and is the seventh vessel to be delivered under the sale and leaseback agreements entered into with CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited (“CSSC”) announced on June 25, 2015. Following delivery from GSI, the Navig8 Gladiator was delivered to CSSC under the terms of the Sale MOA and then delivered back to the Company under bareboat charter. The Navig8 Gladiator will be entered into and operated in Navig8 Group’s Alpha8 commercial pool.

Oman Drydock Announces Strongest Year of Trading

The Oman Drydock Company (ODC), one of the Middle East’s newest and biggest shipyards, is announcing its strongest year of trading. The shipyard undertook 75 drydockings and repairs in 2013 taking the total number to 190 since the yard which was opened in Duqm in Central Oman in 2011. ODC also saw staff numbers increase to more than 2,000 in 2013. The vessels ODC has worked on include Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), crude oil tankers, container ships, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, as well as dredgers, RO-ROs and barges.

Redwood City Fireboat Unveiling August 10

The Redwood City Fire Department asked community kids to offer their best names for the City's new fireboat - and more than 100 came through with a wonderful variety of entries. The selection committee went through every name entered, and came up with the top 10, and from that top 10 the finalist will be chosen, to be painted on the stern of this new, important piece of firefighting equipment and unveiled at a special ceremony on August 10 at the Port of Redwood City . Along with the 10 finalists and their families, the community is invited to join in the special ceremony unveiling the fireboat's name Saturday, August 10, 2013, 1 pm, at the Port of Redwood City, 675 Seaport Boulevard.

Neah Bay Response Tug Starts First full Year of Service

Beginning July 1, the emergency response tug will begin an unprecedented tour of duty for – providing 365 continuous days of service to help prevent oil spills in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and along coastlines. Since 1999, state-funded response tugs stationed at have kept disabled ships from drifting onto rocks and causing major oil spills during the stormy winter months. The tugs have stood by or assisted 40 ships that were disabled or had reduced maneuvering or propulsion. During the 2008 legislative session, Gov. Gregoire and state lawmakers earmarked $3.7 million for the tug and directed the Department of Ecology (Ecology) to contract for year-round emergency response tug service starting July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009. Emergency Response Tug Helping Escort Container Ship

The Gladiator, the state-funded seasonal emergency response tug stationed at Neah Bay, will help escort the 918-ft. container vessel APL Australia part way through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The container ship lost its secondary hydraulic steering system, but its primary steering system is functional. Due to high winds and other unfavorable sea and weather conditions, the Coast Guard today issued a Captain of the Port order requiring a tug escort for the container ship all the way to its destination in Seattle. The Gladiator will meet the APL Australia near the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and provide escort halfway to Port Angeles. A different tug will escort the ship into Seattle. The APL Australia left Hong Kong on Jan.

Tug Assists Vessel Towing Fuel

Crowley Maritime Corporation's tugboat Gladiator, the state-funded seasonal emergency response tug stationed at Neah Bay, Wash., was dispatched last week to assist a tug towing a loaded oil barge after the vessel temporarily lost its primary electrical power and steering. The Na Hoku was headed down Washington's outer coast when its primary electrical generator engine failed about 12.5 miles west of Cape Flattery. The 105-foot tug was towing a fuel barge containing more than two million gallons of diesel fuel and about a half million gallons of gasoline. Jensen noted the state has contracted to station a standby emergency response tug at Neah Bay since spring 1999.

FDGM Recieves Navy Contract

On June 3, 2004, FDGM was awarded a U.S. Navy contract to upgrade the performance of diesel engines on the USS Warrior and USS Gladiator. The contract value is more than $4 million and includes refurbishment and upgrades of all engines to a configuration that demonstrated improved reliability and performance in a previous one-year test. Euroseas Ltd. Takes Delivery of its 11th Vessel

Euroseas Ltd., an owner and operator of drybulk and container carrier vessels and provider of seaborne transportation for drybulk and containerized cargoes, announced today that it took delivery of the M/V Clan Gladiator, a Handysize container ship of 30,007 dwt and 1,742 teu built in 1992 in Germany, which it had previously agreed to acquire.. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to Euroseas around June 11, 2007, at the sellers' option. It will be financed partly by bank debt. The vessel is purchased with a period charter contract at a rate of $19,000 per day till April 2008.

Exercise Nautical Union Concludes in the Persian Gulf

U.S. and Saudi Arabian forces concluded exercise Nautical Union 2007 in the Persian Gulf June 2. USS Higgins (DDG 76), USS Hawes (FFG 53), USS Gladiator (MCM 11) and USS Ardent (MCM 12) trained with Saudi Arabian forces during the eight-day exercise, which focused on improving regional cooperation and efficiency in maintaining stability in the 5th Fleet area of operations. "Nautical Union is a multidimensional warfare exercise involving Royal Saudi and United States Naval forces," said Higgins Commanding Officer Cmdr. Winton Smith. "Bilateral in nature, it is intended to enhance interoperability and tactical proficiency between coalition and regional forces, which may operate together to help set conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment.

Rescue Tug Dispatched to Aid Cargo Ship

The rescue tug stationed at Neah Bay this weekend is assisting a cargo ship safely into Port Angeles and remains on standby while engine repairs are completed. The Cyprus-based Khorol was headed for the Puget Sound when it reported engine problems to Coast Guard Sector Seattle late Friday evening. The Coast Guard directed the 377-ft. long refrigerated cargo ship to stay offshore until the Gladiator, a rescue tug funded by the Washington Department of Ecology, could reach the ship to escort it into Port Angeles for engine repair. Crews on the Khorol made emergency engine repairs at sea, but about three miles outside Port Angeles, the engine failed. The rescue tug, already escorting the ship, then brought it in to Port Angeles.

New Tug Put to Work on First Day of Job

It didn't take long for the state to make use of a new rescue tug stationed at the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula. Just before midnight on New Year's Eve, a wooden fishing vessel with two men and hundreds of gallons of fuel on board was reported drifting near Cape Alava, the scenic beach in Olympic National Park about 10 miles south of Cape Flattery. The new tug, owned by Crowley Marine Services and named Gladiator, was not scheduled to take over from a Foss Maritime tug until midnight. But it had arrived at its new station by 11 p.m. and responded when the call came in. The Gladiator towed the disabled vessel into Neah Bay and turned it over to the Coast Guard, the state Ecology Department said Monday in a statement.

Cougar Ace Situation Update

A Unified Command of federal, state and shipping company representatives continues to make efforts to right the ship Cougar Ace and plan contingencies for towing to an appropriate port of refuge if those efforts are not effective. These efforts are in response to the vessel's July 24 listing in the North Pacific Ocean. With the arrival of a new naval architect and an additional team of salvage professionals at the scene late tonight, a second, more extensive examination of the vessel will take place. Two pumps and other needed equipment were off-loaded from the Makushin Bay onto the Cougar Ace on Tuesday night for an intended rigging of pumps to begin this afternoon. Another pump is still to be placed on board. The pumps will be set up in series to allow them to function more effectively.
