Northrop Grumman Upgrades Navigation Equipment on Stena Line Ferries

Northrop Grumman Corporation has completed an integrated bridge system retrofit for several RoPax ferries operated by Stena Line. Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit provided a fully networked suite of scalable navigation products  from the VisionMaster FT  series, used to form the core of a ship's integrated bridge. The Stena Superfast VII and Stena Superfast VIII vessels were upgraded with VisionMaster FT navigation radars, a voyage data recorder, and an electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) that provides full control on both bridge wings.

Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has delivered a suite of navigation electronics for a new megayacht being built by Proteksan-Turquoise Yachts in Turkey. The new megayacht is being equipped with a complete Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT integrated bridge system (IBS) with TotalWatch multifunction displays. All system components are type-approved to meet International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) performance standards. The system links together all of the bridge subsystems and sensors in a highly integrated Ethernet network, with the widescreen displays embedded in custom cabinetry to meet the yacht's luxurious decor.

Northrop Grumman Earns Suez Canal Contract

Northrop Grumman to Supply Marine Navigation Equipment for Suez Canal Authority. Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has won orders to supply navigation equipment to the Suez Canal Authority for tugboats and other assorted workboats. The orders include radar upgrades for 10 boats, and complete integrated bridge systems (IBS) for four new builds. The IBS is based on Northrop Grumman's VisionMaster FT navigation technology with TotalWatch multifunction workstations, which include electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS), radars, conning displays and interfaces with positioning, heading, speed and depth sensors. The orders were won through Radio Holland Egypt (RHE), Northrop Grumman's sales and service representative in Egypt.

Northrop Grumman Maintenance Contract, Peter Döhle Ships

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been awarded a one-year contract by Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG (PDS-KG) and HAMMONIA Reederei (a joint venture between PDS-KG, HCI Capital AG and GE Transportation Finance, Inc.) to provide worldwide service and maintenance for more than 135 ships. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will be responsible for all shipboard service, support and maintenance of the ships’ navigation and communication equipment, including repairs, spares management and required annual inspections and certifications.

Northrop Grumman Awarded Contract for UK Aircraft Carriers

LONDON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has signed a full production contract for the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carrier Programme. The company also signed a design phase contract for the Navigation Lights, Shapes and Sounds (NLSS). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS-N (U.K.)) for the new aircraft carriers. The system will include navigation planning, electronic charts and radar displays, as well as a comprehensive set of sensors and software.

Sperry Marine Radars for Australian Ferry Fleet

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been chosen to supply radars for the Sydney Harbour Ferries fleet. Sydney Harbour Ferries will fit the Sperry Marine new-generation VisionMaster FT chart radars on all 28 vessels in the fleet. Electrotech Australia Pty Ltd, Sperry Marine’s licensed sales and service representative in Australia, will install and commission the radars and will provide technical support through its Sydney office. “The VisionMaster FT chart radars enhance situational awareness for watch officers by providing an overlay of radar images on a detailed electronic chart display,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president of Naval Systems International at Northrop Grumman’s Naval and Marine Systems Division.

Type Approval, Sperry Marine Chart Display

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been awarded type approval for its electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS) by the U.K. certification authority, QinetiQ. The type-approval certificate was granted for Sperry Marine’s VisionMaster FT ECDIS products, following tests to ensure conformance with the new International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) performance standards IEC 61174 Edition 3 and IEC 62288. Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has received International Standards Organization (ISO) certification for the environmental management systems at the company’s Sperry Marine facilities in Europe. The Certificate of Conformance from ABS Quality Evaluations confirms that Sperry Marine’s environmental management system meets the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard. Northrop Grumman - Sub Nav Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been awarded a delivery order for the fifth year of a five-year contract to provide technical, logistics and material support for navigation systems installed on U.S. Navy ships and submarines. The delivery order, valued at $15.5m, was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit by Naval Inventory Control Point, Mechanicsburg, Pa., under a firm fixed-price performance-based logistics (PBL) contract. Under the contract, Sperry Marine will supply material management, configuration management and program management services for the AN/WSN-7 inertial navigation systems, and the AN/BPS-15 and AN/BPS-16 submarine radar systems.

Northrop Grumman to Supply Navigation Systems for New Ships

Northrop Grumman Corporation has received orders to supply electronic navigation systems for 13 new ships under construction at shipyards in Turkey. Sperry Marine, a business unit of Northrop Grumman, won the orders, which include nine chemical tankers at Marmara Shipyard (Yilak Group) and four new dry cargo and oil tankers at Yardimci and Turkter Shipyards (Yardimci Group). The ships will be fitted with Sperry Marine radars, autopilots, speed and heading sensors and other components. Sperry Marine to Supply New Radars for Odfjell Tankers

Northrop Grumman Corporation signed a contract with Norwegian shipowner Odfjell ASA to install new radars and other navigation systems on its fleet of parcel tankers. The equipment will be supplied and installed by Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit through its worldwide network of service locations. Initial orders under the contract have been placed for 20 Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT radars to be fitted on ten Odfjell ships. The contract also provides options for additional radar purchases for other ships in the fleet, as well as orders for retrofit of simplified voyage data recorders and electronic chart display and information systems on existing ships.

Northrop Grumman Supplies Navigation Systems for New Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean International's newest cruise ship Brilliance of the Seas, which completed its maiden voyage this summer, is equipped with twin state-of-the-art integrated bridge systems supplied by Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit. The Sperry Marine system provides the highest level of safe and accurate navigation for the giant cruise ship, which carries up to 2,500 passengers. In accordance with Royal Caribbean's two-bridge concept, Brilliance of the Seas has been fitted with a totally redundant package consisting of two independent integrated bridge systems (IBS) with all critical components duplicated.

Sperry Marine to Supply Bridge Electronics for New Fisheries Research Vessel

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has been selected to supply a state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems for the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and University of Bergen's new fisheries research ship in Norway, the G.O. Sars, which is named after a renowned Norwegian marine biologist. X- and S-Band BridgeMaster E 340 ARPA radars, ADG4000 self-tuning autopilot, dual SR2100 fiber optic gyrocompasses, repeaters and steering indicators, and a full A4 GMDSS communications package. The IBS consists of three workstations, which can be configured to display radar, ECDIS or conning information. The 3,800 gross ton vessel, being built at the Flekkefjord Slip & Mek shipyard, is scheduled to enter service in early 2003.
