USMI Awarded Contract to Build Special Ops Vesels

United States Marine, Inc. (USMI) has been awarded a $108 million contract to produce vessels for the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).The Gulfport, Miss. based shipbuilder will use the five-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contact to build combatant craft assault vessels to support the USSOCOM missions around the world.USMI Chief Executive Office Barry Dreyfus, Jr., indicated the contract would allow the company to retain and possibly expand its workforce.“USMI looks forward to continuing our work on behalf of the warfighter and we appreciate the confidence the United States Special Operations Command continues to have in us. We are also proud to work with the tremendous members and Staff of the Mississippi delegation.

General Atomics Battery for New Navy Submersible

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to provide Lithium-ion Fault Tolerant (LiFT) battery systems for use on U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) new Dry Combat Submersible (DCS), a long endurance delivery vehicle capable of transporting divers in a dry environment. The GA-EMS LiFT battery system will power the DCS propulsion and internal support systems. “Our unique solution provides the energy needed to safely propel and power the DCS at the distances and depths required to deliver personnel to their mission destination,” said Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS. LiFT battery systems are high energy density solutions for both manned and unmanned underwater vehicles.

Ingalls Launches US Navy Destroyer Ralph Johnson

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division launched Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), the company’s 30th Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) guided missile destroyer, on Saturday. Ingalls has built and delivered 28 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. There are currently four more under construction at Ingalls, including Ralph Johnson, which is scheduled to be christened in the spring of 2016. John Finn (DDG 113) was christened in May and is expected to undergo sea trials in 2016.

Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division today authenticated the keel for the company's 30th Aegis guided missile destroyer, Ralph Johnson (DDG 114). Swiftships Unveils USV with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette

Last month, Swiftships Shipbuilders, LLC, in Morgan City, La., showcased the Anaconda-2 – an unmanned, 35-ft. craft in development – during a demonstration on the Atchafalaya River next to its HQ. The company partnered with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette more than a year ago to produce technology for a vessel that can navigate without a pilot aboard. Swiftships and ULL are designing a boat that uses Global Positioning System/sensory data, and has the potential to support naval, enforcement and zone-protection operations, mainly on inland waters.

Special Operations Boat Contract for Oregon Iron Works

The US Department of Defense has issued a Special Operations Command contract to Oregon Iron Works for funding of the Combatant Craft Medium Mark One (CCM Mk1) building program. The CCM Mk 1 craft will replace the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) as a utilitarian go-to-war craft without the design constraints of C-130 internal air transport or airdrop. The primary mission of CCM Mk 1 is insertion/extraction of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in medium threat environments.

Ingalls Starts Construction of Destroyer DDG 114

Huntington Ingalls Industries has started fabrication of the U.S. Navy's next Aegis guided missile destroyer, 'Ralph Johnson' (DDG 114). The ship will be the 30th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer built at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. The start-of-fabrication milestone signifies that 100 tons of steel have been cut for DDG 114. Ingalls uses state-of-the-art robotic cutting machines to ensure the steel is cut and fabricated to exact Navy specifications. Ralph Johnson is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2017.

Lithium-ion Battery Navy Contract for General Atomics

A Department of Defense, Navy, $12,490,000 contract has been awarded to General Atomics, San Diego Calif., for lithium-ion batteries and associated accessories to be utilized by the dry combat submersible program for the U.S. Special Operations Command. The batteries and accessories will be used on Navy submersible vehicles as primary sources of power. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by September 2018. Fiscal 2013 Research, Development, Test and Evaluation funding in the amount of $12,490,000 will be obligated at the time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity (N00164-13-D-GS12).

Valuable Maritime Services Contract Continuation for CDI

CDI Corp. gets a new U.S. Navy SEAPORT task order to continue to provide watercraft engineering & marine services for the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The watercraft engineering and marine services contract is for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Detachment Norfolk – Combatant Craft Division (CCD). The new task order, including all options, has a maximum value of $36 million over a two-year period. CDI will be the principal engineering and installation/alteration contractor for the CCD, providing program management and planning, design and prototype engineering and construction, design development engineering, acquisition engineering, logistics, in-service engineering and lifecycle management. CDI has provided the same services to the Navy over the past nine years.

New Navy Ship -- JHSV -- to Drop Anchor in St. Petersburg

The Navy's first Joint High-Speed Vessel, USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), is scheduled to visit the Port of St. Petersburg beginning Sunday, Feb. 10. The ship will remain in port until its departure Tuesday afternoon. The port call is primarily a working visit and an opportunity for senior officials and military personnel from U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command to visit the ship and receive short briefings on Spearhead's capabilities. Built in Mobile, Ala., by Austal U.S.A., USNS Spearhead is designed for rapid, intra-theater transport of troops and military equipment.

United States Marine Patrol Boats Contracts

According to an Associate Press report, United States Marine signed the paperwork turning over two patrol boats to the U.S. Special Operations Command. They are the last of the vessels to be delivered under a contract valued at more than $100m. Also, the company announced it has received a $20m contract with the Navy for 20 of the boats. Special Boat Operators Reach Milestone MCADS Drop

Special Warfare Boat Operators (SB) from Special Boat Team 20 (SBT-20) reached a milestone on March 28 when they successfully completed the 100th and 101st insertion of the Maritime Craft Aerial Deployment System (MCADS) off the coast of North Carolina. Serving as a true force multiplier, the MCADS capability enables Naval Special Warfare Sailors to rapidly deploy anywhere in the world in a maritime environment. The system deploys an 11-meter RIB (rigid inflatable boat) rigged with four large parachutes from the back of a C-130 or C-17 at approximately 3,500-feet. Approximately four Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC) immediately follow the boat out of the plane and parachute to the immediate proximity of where the boat lands.
