Atlas North America Awarded Contract
Under contract to Naval Surface Weapons Center (NSWC) Indian Head, Md., Atlas North America (Atlas NA) will deliver the Atlas Portable SeaFox Mine Neutralization Systems (PMNS) to address an urgent operational need from U.S. Navy Central Command for a more effective mine countermeasures system. Under this contract, Atlas NA is responsible for the delivery of the SeaFox sys-tem, installation, integration, testing, training and life cycle support of these portable systems. All deliveries are expected to be complete within one calendar year. U.S. Navy Vessels Collide in Strait of Hormuz
A U.S. Navy submarine and U.S. amphibious ship collided in the Strait of Hormuz March 20, 2009. The collision between USS Hartford (SSN 768) and USS New Orleans (LPD 18) occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. local time (5:00 p.m. EDT, March 19). Fifteen sailors aboard the Hartford were slightly injured and returned to duty. No personnel aboard New Orleans were injured. Overall damage to both ships is being evaluated. The propulsion plant of the submarine was unaffected by this collision.
Navy Sub and Merchant Vessel Collide
The Navy issued a report in response to the collision involving a Navy submarine and merchant vessel. According to the Navy's report, no U.S. sailors or merchant crew were injured when a U.S. Navy submarine and a commercial cargo vessel collided in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday evening January 8, 2007. The collision between USS Newport News (SSN 750) and the Japanese-flagged motor vessel Mogamigawa occurred at approximately 10:15 in the evening (local time) in the strait of Hormuz while the submarine was transiting submerged. Overall damage to the USS Newport News is being evaluated. The propulsion plant was unaffected by this collision. The incident is currently under investigation.
No Injuries as Submarine, Ship Collide
From Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Commander, U.S. MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- No Sailors or merchant seamen were injured when a U.S. Navy submarine and a commercial cargo vessel collided in the Persian Gulf Sept. The collision between USS Philadelphia (SSN 690) and the Turkish-flagged M/V Yaso Aysen occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. local time while the submarine was conducting surfaced operations as it transited to Bahrain for a scheduled port visit. The submarine's propulsion plant was unaffected by this event. Philadelphia will continue to Bahrain for inspection of any potential exterior damage. The incident is under investigation. Philadelphia is currently on a regularly scheduled deployment to the U.S.
