New Fireboat Delivered to Vietnam

The Fire Department of Quang Ninh Province (Canh Sat PCCC) in Northern Vietnam ordehas taken delivery of a new fireboat built by Canadian builder MetalCraft Marine (MCM) for the island of Tuan Chau, in Ha-Long Bay.The Firestorm 36 MkII arrived in Vietnam in December of 2020 and was commissioned in late January of 2021 by MCM staff, with technical assistance and translation provided by technicians from the local Vietnamese MCM agent.The Firestorm 36 MkII pumping system exceeds 3200 GPM at 150 PSI through her Darley ZSM 3000 pump and Elkhart Monitors…

Iran, Vietnam to Improve Maritime Co-op

Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad is in talks with Vietnamese officials with the aim of improving trade and connectivity capacities between the two countries.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the managing director of the Ports and Maritime Organization met Vietnamese national shipping authorities during a visit to Vietnam and discussed the trade and communications capacities of the two countries. The discussions focused on the launch of a shipping line between ports of the two countries.Rastad also met with the Deputy Minister of Transportation during his visit to Vietnam and talked through the trade and communications capacities of the two countries on the development of port and maritime cooperation.

Vietnam Opens Haiphong International Container Terminal

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced that its joint venture company Haiphong International Container Terminal held an opening ceremony for the new Haiphong International Container Terminal (HICT) at Lach Huyen Port, Vietnam on May 13. HICT is the first terminal in Northern Vietnam with a berth deep enough to allow calls by 14,000TEU containerships. It will meet customer demands for shorter transit times and lower transport costs, while contributing to economic growth in Northern Vietnam, including Haiphong industrial park, since large-size container vessels, which offer direct links to Asia and North America/Europe, can call at the port.

NYK Launches Car Transport Service to Hai Phong

NYK has started a new car transport service “Ruffles Ao Dai RORO Express (REX)” linking Hai Phong in Northern Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh and Laem Chabang (near Bangkok). On October 8, the NYK-operated car carrier Modern Link arrived in Hai Phong for the first call. And the ceremony to commemorate was held attended by the top managements of the Port of Hai Phong, Tan Vu Terminal, among others. The previous service for Northern Vietnam called at the port of Cai Lan is once a month. Now the new service calls the port of Hai Phong, which is close to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, and increases the number of calls to twice a month. NYK will attempt to accommodate demand for the transportation of finished cars to Vietnam…

China, Vietnam to Look Beyond Sea Disputes

Vietnamese Communist leader Nguyen Phu Trong and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to make joint efforts to manage the South China Sea row. Both countries agreed to friendly negotiations, and the possibility of joint development projects to settle their differences over the resource rich South China Sea. Among the proposals put forward by Li Keqiang include joint inspections with Vietnam in the waters at the mouth of the Beibu Gulf. The waters of the Beibu Gulf, which borders Guangxi and northern Vietnam, have not been completely delineated. The leaders stated that they would “proactively look for transitional resolution methods which do not affect both side’s position, including looking at and discussing joint development” said a joint communiqué.

White House Urges Dialogue, Not Intimidation In China Rig Dispute

The White House said on Wednesday that a dispute between China and Vietnam that erupted within days of President Barack Obama's visit to Asia to address regional tensions needs to be resolved with dialogue, not intimidation. While the United States was not a party to the dispute, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama had repeatedly stressed on his trip last month the need for peaceful dialogue on various disputes involving China and the South China Sea. The renewed tension between Vietnam and China underscores one of the biggest challenges in Asia facing Obama, who is under pressure by America's allies to accelerate a "pivot" of military assets to the region to counter China's rising influence. U.S. Warships Visit North Vietnam

Two U.S. Navy vessels on became the first American warships to visit northern Vietnam in peacetime, entering Haiphong port which U.S. forces mined and bombed in the Vietnam War 40 years ago, according to a Reuters report. The courtesy call of mine warfare ships USS Patriot and USS Guardian in communist-ruled Vietnam is the latest in a series of ship visits at a time of warm relations between Hanoi and Washington. A training ship, USS Golden Bear, visited Haiphong in July, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi said. Essar Plans Investment in Vietnamese Oil Exploration Sector

Close on the heels of announcing its plans to invest in a steel plant in Vietnam, Essar group is now looking forward to investing in the oil and gas exploration sector in the country. According to sources, Essar Energy Holdings Ltd – the group oil and gas outfit – has recently participated in the ‘2nd international bidding round for open blocks in Song Hong Basin’, offshore northern Vietnam. The bid was submitted for one block on a standalone basis, though the name of the block was not given. Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, known as PetroVietnam, had launched the bidding round in June this year. The blocks are located at average water depths of 60-100 meters covering 50 square km area at 50 to 100 km distance from the shoreline.
