On March 30 in Hardinxveld, the Netherlands, Damen Shipyards Group handed over a Multi Cat 1908 named Patricia Matheson to Inverlussa Marine Services. Cammell Laird: Polar Ship Contract to Kick-start Exports
British shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird said it plans to unleash an “aggressive exports drive” in 2017 after one of its busiest years for commercial marine work, which saw it land the biggest shipbuilding project in the U.K. for a generation. Cammell Laird CEO John Syvret said the winning of the £150 million contract to build the Sir David Attenborough polar research vessel for the U.K. Government “threw open” a new global market to build a range of high value polar vessels from research to cruise ships.
Cargo Ship Aground at Kilchoan
Stornoway Coastguard was contacted this morning by the general cargo vessel LYSBLINK SEAWAYS reporting that they had gone aground north of the Isle of Mull, near Kilchoan, at approximately 1.50am. She has 9 people on board and the Tobermory RNLI lifeboat has been standing by the vessel on scene overnight. \ Currently the crew remain on board and will await tugs arriving on scene. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency have tasked the Emergency Towing Vessel Heracles to proceed to the area. The vessel’s owners have appointed a salvage company and a commercial tug. There is no report of pollution. The vessel was bound from Belfast to Skogn in Norway when she ran aground.
CTruk Signs New Customer at Seawork
Essex-based CTruk said it topped off a busy first day at Seawork International by signing an agreement with a new client, Paul Knight, for their now proven composite 20T multi-purpose catamaran design. Isle of Mull-based Paul started his own shellfish export business at the age of 18 and has always had a head for opportunities. Later adding a commercial fishing arm to PDK Marine, Paul bought his first vessel seven years ago and has owned several since. UK Reports on Oban Allision
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) issued its report on the investigation of the allision between the ro-ro ferry ISLE OF MULL and a moored vessel and a pier in Oban Bay. The ferry was approaching its berth. When the master moved from the center control console to the starboard wing control console, he forgot to start the bow thruster. As the officer of the watch started the bow thruster and transferred control to the starboard wing control console, the master’s control over the port engine was lost momentarily. By the time full control was regained, there was insufficient sea room to slow or maneuver the ferry. The primary cause of the allision was determined to be poor bridge team management practices.
