Lobstermen Select IMTRA For Equipment

IMTRA announced today it has provided Offshore series LED deck lights, Exalto and Roca windshield wipers, Side-Power thrusters and Zipwake Dynamic Trim Control Systems to lobster vessels throughout New England. The newly-launched lobster boat Sailor’s Way from Stonington, Maine is the latest fishing vessel to be equipped with IMTRA gear. “The light package the IMTRA team recommended for me works so well,” said Nathan Jones, owner, Sailor’s Way. “Our commercial customersin the lobster industry tie their livelihood to the safe operation of their vessels in some of the most challenging conditions,”said Nate Cabral, Northeast commercial sales, IMTRA.

Kongsberg Camera System for Canadian Navy Vessel

Aberdeen based Kongsberg Maritime camera systems group has delivered a new large network IP CCTV system to Chantier Davie Canada for installation aboard the new Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Auxiliary Naval Replenishment Ship, known currently as ‘Project Resolve’. Project Resolve was established to develop an interim fleet supply vessel for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). The project purchased MS Asterix, a commercial containership, and is converting it into an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ship that will be chartered by the Royal Canadian Navy.

IMTRA Outfits US’ First Wind Farm Vessel

IMTRA, a manufacturer and importer of commercial marine products, has delivered equipment to the first U.S.-flagged offshore wind farm crew transfer vessel (CTV), Atlantic Pioneer. IMTRA’s scope of supply includes the Colorlight CL20 high-output searchlight, Decca Straight Line wiper system and LED deck, interior and engine room lights for the Blount Boats-built, 69-foot CTV. The vessel was locally built in Rhode Island and has been delivered to its operator, Atlantic Wind Transfers which is based in Quonset Point, R.I.

RV Belgica to Undergo Electrical Systems Refit

System integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems said it has won an order for an electrical systems refit aboard RV Belgica, an oceanographic research vessel owned by the Belgian state. Prior to the assignment, Alewijnse carried out a year-long research project on a limited lifetime extension of the vessel. The refit will start in April 2016 and take several months to complete. RV Belgica celebrated her 30th anniversary in 2014 and renovations are necessary for the ship to continue in active service for another seven years.

Turner Designs' C6P enables upto 6 Sensors

Turner Designs now offers a C6P Submersible Sensor package enabling up to six sensors in a corrosion resistant, highly durable, Delrin plastic housing able to withstand even the harshest of environments. Modeled after the popular C3, the C6P can be configured with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 optical sensors ranging from deep UV to IR. An antifouling copper plate and a mechanical wiper are available as options to minimize bio-fouling on and around the sensors. Each C6P comes with a factory installed temperature sensor; factory-installed depth sensors are available. A large internal data storage capacity, low power requirements, and a high capacity external submersible lithium ion battery allow for long-term deployments.

Kongsberg Installs CCTV System for USCG Icebreaker

Kongsberg Maritime has delivered a complete new CCTV system to the U.S. Coast Guard for its heavy icebreaker vessel Polar Star (WAGB-10). The delivery follows a CCTV System upgrade on Polar Star’s sister vessel, the USCGC Healy Polar Ice Breaker, in 2013. The USCGC Polar Star is one of the largest ships in the U.S. Coast Guard and one of the world’s most powerful nonnuclear ships. It was commissioned in 1976 but in 2006 went into caretaker status when the crew was reduced and the ship kept ready for a return to ice.

Umoe Mandal Places Order with DuroWipers

Norwegian operator Umoe Mandal has purchased six External Panorama Pantograph heavy duty windscreen wipers from U.K. based DuroWipers to equip a newbuild Surface Effect Ship (SES). Statkraft has entered into an initial six month charter agreement for the new WaveCraft vessel to transport its O&M turbine technicians to and from the Sheringham Shoal offshore windfarm off the coast of Norfolk. Vietnam Shipyard Builds New Caledonia Tugboat

Cty TNHH Vuot Song, the subsidiary shipyard of Roy’s Maritime in Vietnam has just finished the construction of a 16-m long tugboat for New Caledonia, that will be delivered to the ship owner early 2014. The tugboat ‘Taabya.on’ is 16 meters long and 6.20 meters in breadth with a 16-tonee bollard pull, and will be used for the transportation of nickel in New Caledonia. Build of the new vessel was supervised by classification society Bureau Veritas, and New Caledonian Maritime in accordance with the divison 222.

Schneider Electric released its Pelco Esprit SE IP Integrated PTZ Camera System including both standard and pressurized models for video surveillance and IP network connectivity. Built upon the Esprit SE positioning system platform, the system now features dynamic window blanking, auto tracking, internal scheduling clock, electronic image stabilization, and multilanguage menus – all formerly reserved only for high-speed domes. First 3-D Printer Ship Model

Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock complete a fabricated model of the hospital ship 'USNS Comfort'. The state-of-the-art 3-D printer, which is one of four in the United States, provides Carderock with the capability to deliver large, complex ship models. Additionally, the ship models require less assembly time and can be fabricated unattended, 24 hours a day. "3D printing technology is currently being used in industry to produce parts, structures and models for various applications," said NSWC Carderock engineer Francisco "Paco" Rodriguez.

With more than 1,500 young men and women graduating from the seven U.S. maritime academies this year, employment opportunities for the class of 2012 remain plentiful, according to the American Maritime Partnership. “We congratulate the maritime academy graduates for passing the extensive U.S. Coast Guard exam and pursuing a career that will help grow the U.S. economy and keep our country strong and safe,” said James Henry, President of the Transportation Institute, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Maritime Partnership.

Stabil Drill, a Superior Energy Services company, has developed the Stabil Drill Ghost Reamer for application in horizontal shale drilling, announced COO Chris Russo. The Ghost Reamer, an eight-bladed Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) reamer, allows the wellbore to be cleaned and cleared either by back reaming on rigs that have top-drive or for rigs without top-drive, by pulling out to the top of the curve and then rotating forward until reaching total depth. This flexible solution eliminates wiper trips - saving time and money.

New Isolation Valve

Schlumberger announced at the Offshore Europe 2011 Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition the release of the FORTRESS isolation valve. The FORTRESS valve is designed to simplify the transition from upper completion to production without the need for intervention. “The FORTRESS isolation valve was designed based on field-proven experience and extensive testing related to debris accumulation,” said Mike Garding, president, Schlumberger Completions. “The new valve serves as a bidirectional barrier valve that exceeds ISO 28781 standards to the point of providing a bubble-tight barrier. This barrier enables increased safety, especially in applications such as deepwater where high differential pressure is required.

Updated Merchant Mariner Medical Eval Forms

The Coast Guard is releasing a new version of the CG-719 K (Merchant Mariner Credential Medical Evaluation Report) and CG-719 K/E (Merchant Mariner Evaluation of Fitness for Entry Level Ratings) forms to facilitate obtaining objective medical information which will enable the Coast Guard to make accurate and timely fit for duty determinations which will reduce risk to maritime safety. The U.S. Coast Guard issued the first consolidated Merchant Mariner Credential May 7, during the Towing Safety Advisory Committee meeting held at Dania Beach, Fla. Jessica Dennis, a regulatory compliance manager for Hornbeck Offshore, was the first mariner to receive the new MMC as evidenced by its serial number of 000000001. Dennis is a graduate of the Texas Maritime Academy and holds domestic officer endorsements such as; second mate of steam motor vessels, able seaman, wiper and stewards department.
