Marine Towing of Tampa Acquires Seabulk Towing Assets from Bisso

Marine Towing of Tampa announced it is expanding its ship assist services to Florida's east coast following a deal with E.N. Great Lakes Towing Acquires Sarter Marine Towing

Sarter Marine Towing Company Inc. announced it has agreed upon definitive terms for the sale of Sarter to The Great Lakes Towing Company.Under the deal, The Great Lakes Towing Company purchased Sarter tugboats Donald J. Sarter and William C. Selvik, as well as all supporting machinery and equipment and most other shoreside assets. The remaining five tugs in Sarter’s fleet will be chartered to the Towing Company under a long-term bareboat charter arrangement. Great Lakes Shipyard Now a Damen Licensed Builder

Great Lakes Shipyard (GLS) informed that it has entered into a five-year agreement with B.V. Scheepswerf Damen Gorinchem authorizing the Cleveland shipyard as an official builder of Damen designs. GLS’s Damen Series is designed by Damen, built by Great Lakes Shipyard and made in the U.S.A. The agreement also provides for Damen technical services, including experienced personnel for onsite management and supervision on any and all construction projects. Now, all of the technology and know-how of Damen, including drawings, specifications and design information, is at the fingertips of Great Lakes Shipyard for the benefit of its customers in the United States.

Jensen Maritime Designs Harley Tugs & Barge

Crowley Maritime subsidiary, Jensen Maritime complete design of 2 ASD tugboats & a deck cargo barge for Harley Marine. Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company Jensen Maritime recently completed the designs of two new ASD tugs, based on the popular Valor tugboat design, and a 250’ x 70’ x 15’ 8” deck barge for customer Harley Marine, a Seattle-based marine transportation provider. The tugs, named Robert Franco and Ahbra Franco, will provide tanker escort and ship assist services along the U.S. West Coast once delivered.

Jensen Designs Two Tugs, Deck Barge for Harley

Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, recently completed the designs of two new ASD tugs, based on the popular Valor tugboat design, and a 250’ x 70’ x 15’ 8” deck barge for customer Harley Marine, a Seattle-based marine transportation provider. The tugs, named Robert Franco and Ahbra Franco, will provide tanker escort and ship assist services along the U.S. West Coast once delivered. The barge, Iliuliuk Bay, will transport a wide variety of cargo between Dutch Harbor and Akutan, Alaska, with up to three runs per week. Jensen designed the two new industry-setting tugboats similarly to the classic Valor concept, but upgraded them with Tier 3 Cat 3516C engines and Rolls-Royce US 255 Z-drives.

Late last year, Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. of East Boothbay, Maine delivered Kaye E. Moran, a 92’ x 32’, 5100 HP Z Drive Firefighting Tug, to the Moran Towing Corporation of New Canaan, Connecticut. The vessel will be used to provide ship-assist services for LNG tankers at the recently reopened Dominion Cove Point LNG storage terminal south of Baltimore, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. Kaye E. Feature: Guiding the Gas

Many workboats in the marine industry are called upon in supply or assist roles. The entire offshore vessel industry is based on a supply function to oil and gas drilling operations or the resupply of production platforms. The tugboat industry is most often characterized as small vessels assisting very large ships in docking, undocking and other harbor movements. The growth of these vessel companies and their operations depends on the economic vitality of the larger industry they serve. Right now the hottest new market being served by tugs is in the assistance of very large Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) tankers to dock and undock. As is the case in other marine support operations, the growth of tugs to assist LNG tankers depends on the basic health of LNG transport.

USCG Approves E. N. Bisso & Son Security Plans

The United States Coast Guard has completed its review of E. N. Bisso & Son, Inc., security plans and compliance inspections of the company’s tugs. William Summers, the company’s Vice President, Operations, noted that all the on board inspections were very thorough and professional and that no discrepancies were identified. In explaining why the E. N. Crowley's Bay-Area Tugs Relocate to Port of Oakland

To better serve its Oakland ship assist and escort customers Crowley Maritime Corporation is relocating its tugs to Berth 9 in the Port of Oakland effective Friday, June 16. The move, eight miles away from Crowley's previous terminal at 10th Avenue, will allow Crowley to provide faster service upon receiving a customer's ship assist request. Crowley tugs will be based closer to most customer operations and will be able to work with greater ease in the expanse of the Outer Harbor. Tugs will no longer need to sail through the Oakland Estuary to reach most vessels. Crowley tugs, which were once a fixture in San Francisco Bay from the early 1900s to 1996, returned home in 2004 to once again provide service to area customers.
