Maersk Tankers to Add 11 Vessels to Fleet

Danish tanker owner and operator Maersk Tankers is set to add 11 ships to its managed fleet in a deal with BP Shipping and ICBC Financial Leasing.Under the terms of the agreement, Maersk Tankers will take each vessel from the owner under a bare-boat charter arrangement, which it will then hire out to BP under a time charter deal for a period of three years. Therefore, Maersk Tankers will assume full responsibility for operational risks and the technical management of the vessels.“We are excited to enter into this agreement and are honored that two industry leaders have selected us as a trusted partner. With this agreement, we increase our fleet under management to 198 vessels from more than 30 different partners – cementing our strong position within the industry,” says Soren C.

Six New LNG Vessels Join BP Shipping Fleet

BP Shipping took delivery of British Partner, the first of a half dozen new 173,400 cu. m. capacity liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to be delivered through 2018 and 2019 from the DSME shipyard in South Korea. BP Shipping, which launched a fleet rejuvenation program in 2016 that includes 32 new vessels for delivery over a three-year period, said the six new Partnership class ships will increase its ability to transport LNG in emerging new markets, such as Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt and Bangladesh, in addition to established markets, such as India, China, the U.S.

TOP Ships Signs New TC with BP

Top Ships Extends Time Charter of M/T Eco Fleet

Top Ships, an international owner and operator of modern, fuel efficient "ECO" tanker vessels focusing on the transportation of petroleum products, announced that it has extended the firm period of the time charter of M/T Eco Fleet with BP Shipping Limited for six months. BIMCO, CIRM Propose Software Maintenance Standard for Shipping

BIMCO and the international association for the marine electronics industry, CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime), have sent the industry’s first proposal for an industry-wide standard for software maintenance to the IMO for consideration. Without an industry-standard, BIMCO sees an increasing risk of severe incidents on ships, delays and costs to shipowners and cyber security problems. UK Shipping Seeks to Double Seafarer Training Fund

The UK Chamber of Shipping, with backing from 40 shipping companies, has this week written to the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, asking the Government to double the amount of funding available for seafarer training as soon as possible. The letter was also sent to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond and the Minister of State, Department for Transport, John Hayes. The UK Chamber, in conjunction with Nautilus International, has submitted a proposal for the Government's existing Support for Maritime Training (SMarT) scheme to be extended. “The Government’s review of SMarT recognised that change was necessary and recommended the level of support should increase from £15 million to around £30 million annually…

BP’s LNG Carrier Fleet is Growing

BP said it will take delivery of six new, state-of-the-art liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers in 2018 and 2019 to support its expanding global LNG portfolio. BP’s finance partners KMarin and ICBC Leasing are investing more than $1 billion in the tankers. The vessels will join BP’s exixting fleet to help service a 20-year liquefaction contract with the Freeport LNG facility in Texas, as well as other international LNG projects in BP’s global portfolio. “These vessels will significantly increase BP’s ability to safely transport LNG to anywhere in the world, directly supporting BP’s global natural gas strategy,” said BP Shipping CEO Susan Dio. The new ships are designed to be about 25 percent more fuel efficient than their predecessors, BP said.

Capital Product Bags 3 MR Charters

Capital Product Partners, an international diversified shipping company, announced that it has secured new time charter employment for three Medium Range (MR) Product Tankers. The M/T 'Amadeus' (50,108 dwt, IMO II/III Eco Chemical/Product Tanker built 2015, Samsung Heavy Industries (Nigbo) secured employment with Repsol Trading for one year (+/- 30 days) at a gross daily rate of $14,500. The charterer has the option to extend the time charter for an additional year (+/-30 days) at a gross daily rate of $14,750. The new charter will commence in October 2017. Capital Product Partners Sings Pact for $460 Mln Refinancing

Capital Product Partners  entered into a firm offer letter for a senior secured term loan facility of up to $460.0 million with HSH Nordbank AG and ING Bank as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners and BNP Paribas and National Bank of Greece S.A. as arrangers. The lenders also include Alpha Bank S.A., Piraeus Bank S.A. and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (Publ). The closing of the credit facility is subject to finalization of the long form loan documentation. "We intend to use the net proceeds of the loans under the New Facility, together with available cash of approximately $120.6 million, to refinance, four out of five of our existing credit facilities amounting to $580.6 million in total," says a statement from the company.

Goltens to Retrofit BWT Systems on BP Gas Carriers

Goltens said it has been awarded a contract for the engineering and retrofit installation of OceanSaver ballast water treatment (BWT) systems on board two of BP Shipping’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The vessels to be retrofitted are the two 138,000 cbm LNG vessels British Innovator and British Merchant. Aqualis Lands Audit Work for LNG Carrier

Offshore marine and engineering consultancy Aqualis Offshore, part of Oslo-listed Aqualis ASA, said it has been contracted by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd to provide an engineering study of a new-build liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier the yard is constructing for Teekay LNG. Aqualis Offshore’s work scope is to provide failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), hazard dentification (HAZID) and hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies for the boil-off gas handling system and fuel gas system on board the vessel. The U.S. maritime industry publicly recognized the merchant mariners responsible for safe ship operations at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held on June 7, 2017. In all, 211 people, representing 53 companies and their subsidiaries attended the annual industry-sponsored event where 1,582 vessels with 10,604 cumulative years of accident free operation were recognized. Since 1958, the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) has also sponsored the Safety Achievement Award program which recognizes outstanding feats of safety that contribute to saving a life, a ship or other property.

BP Shipping U.S. Crude to PDVSA's Terminal

British BP has shipped a U.S. crude cargo to PDVSA's terminal in Curacao, the third one that the firm has sent since winning a tender along with China Oil last month to provide the Venezuelan state-run company with some 8 million barrels of light oil, according to sources and Reuters data. Venezuela started regular crude purchases last year and since then it has been launching tenders on the open market for at least one monthly cargo. In March it decided to secure provisions for the whole second quarter, doubling crude imports to some 95,000 barrels per day (bpd). The tanker NS Century chartered by BP loaded crude this week at Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas, on the U.S. Gulf Coast and set sail to PDVSA's Bullenbay terminal on the Caribbean island of Curacao.

Capital Product Partners L.P. a Marshall Islands master limited partnership and an international owner of modern tanker, container and drybulk vessels today announced that its board of directors has declared a cash distribution of $0.2385 per common unit for the fourth quarter of 2015 ended December 31, 2015. Marlink Inks Broadband Deal with BP Shipping

Marlink will provide BP Shipping with global multi-band high speed VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services to support operational efficiency and crew communication across its tanker fleet. Under the new contract, Marlink will deliver primary communication capability on its flexible Sealink VSAT service, including MSS (Mobile Satellite System) back-up to BP’s operated fleet. BP Shipping was one of the first operators to adopt maritime VSAT services across its tanker fleet. The company’s current operated fleet will migrate to Sealink Ku-band VSAT. BP’s existing vessels will retain their C-band VSAT antennas, enabling Marlink to deliver a true multi-band broadband service with high availability of connectivity globally.

BP Shipping Turns 100

BP Shipping celebrated its 100-year anniversary yesterday, making it the longest continually operating company in the group. Formed on April 30, 1915 as the British Tanker Company, the business has contributed to two world wars, the Great Depression, the closures of the Suez Canal, and the impact of oil nationalisations on the world economy and the movement of oil and gas. It has also played a role in the evolution of safer and more environmentally sustainable shipping practices including inert gas systems, crude oil washing and double hulling. The firm has been responsible for the construction of more than 500 oil and gas tankers – an average launch rate of one new ship every 10 weeks of the century – as well as a myriad of small vessels to support BP’s international operations.

Teekay, BP Enter Deal for Newbuild LNG Tankers

Teekay LNG Partners L.P. announced that it has entered into a 13-year time-charter contract with BP Shipping Limited (BP) for one liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier newbuilding, plus an option exercisable by BP by the end of the third quarter of 2015 for one additional LNG carrier under similar terms. The vessels, including the optional vessel if exercised, will primarily provide LNG transportation services for BP’s LNG volumes from the Freeport LNG project located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas, which consists of three LNG trains with a total capacity of 13.2 metric tons per annum, scheduled for start-up in 2018. DSME Rolls Out World's Largest Containership

Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has named the MSC Oscar, which has claimed the title of the world’s biggest containership. After the christening ceremony the MSC Oscar departed for Busan. The vessel has a capacity of 19,224 containers, and is the equivalent of four football stadiums in length with the nominal capacity of 19,224 TEU. The prestigious title has been taken over from China Shipping’s CSCL Globe, boasting 19,100 teu, which is currently on its maiden voyage in Europe. A report in Korea Times says that it was the first vessel of the three that China's Bank of Communications has ordered to charter to Swiss container shipping line Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
