Coast Guard Responds to Delaware River Grounding
The Coast Guard is overseeing salvage efforts Tuesday for a motor vessel aground on the Delaware River. The 328-foot Netherlands-flagged motor vessel, Bermuda Islander, lost power and propulsion Monday at approximately 9 p.m. before running aground near Salem, New Jersey. No injuries or pollution have been reported. There were 12 people aboard the ship when it ran aground. USCG Medevacs Cruise Ship Passenger Near Oahu
The Coast Guard medevaced a 76-year-old man being treated for internal bleeding from a cruise ship 80 miles north of Oahu, Tuesday. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point safely hoisted the man from the cruise ship Carnival Miracle at 9 p.m. and transferred him to awaiting EMS at the Honolulu Airport. The patient was admitted to Queens Medical Center at 10:14 p.m. Personnel aboard the cruise ship contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu at 4:21 p.m. Sunday regarding medical assistance for an ailing passenger. The ship had originally departed Vancouver, British Columbia, en route Nawiliwili, Kauai. The ship’s doctor was treating the man for internal bleeding.
Amver Bulker Stands By Dismasted Catamaran
French catamaran dismasted in the South Atlantic sparked a search effort involving Coast Guard aircraft and an Amver ship. The crew of the 109-ft catamaran Mouse Trap activated their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) after their mast fell killing a crew member 500 miles southeast of Bermuda. Rescue authorities in Griz Nes, France received the initial distress call and notified U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel in Portsmouth, Va. "The vessel is adrift, the tiller and steering gears are in complete failure and the crew is trying to start the engine," French rescue personnel reported. Vessel Sinks Along Coast
Coast Guard units from Mass., have assisted a leaking fishing vessel today, resulting in three fisherman being evacuated from their craft shortly before it sank. Coast Guard assistance began at 3 a.m. when the Sea Trek reported it was taking on water near Chatham, Mass. A 44-ft. Coast Guard rescue boat arrived on scene and gave the Sea Trek crew a dewatering pump. The crew of the fishing vessel was able to use the pump to bring the water level down and allow their vessel to function properly. The Coast Guard escorted the Sea Trek to Race Point. After reaching Race Point, a communications schedule was set up with the Coast Guard to ensure the Sea Trek was proceeding in a safe manner.
