Meyer Turku Cuts Steel for New Carnival Cruise Ship
The cruise ship builder Meyer Turku started the production of a 5,286-lower berth cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line.According to German shipbuilder, the ship will be the first North American-based cruise ship to run on iquefied natural gas (LNG) and will also be the largest Carnival cruise ship ever built with 180,000 gross tonnage (GT).With the first steel cutting the physical form of the ship will start to takeshape. Vinashin Plans Investment
According to reports, Vinashin has obtained the go-ahead from central Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa province to invest in series of industrial parks and urban projects in Cam Ranh Bay. The company will invest in three industrial parks (IPs), including a Cam Ranh IP-township, the South Cam Ranh IP, and a site in northern Hon Qui. The shipbuilding group will also build a 200ha Cam Phu – Cam Linh Urban Area and an ecotourism site in Hon Qui. Vinashin will work out detailed investment plans for each project to submit to the local government. Between now and 2010, the unlisted-shipbuilder plans to build seven shipyards, six shipbuilding industrial parks and seven shipbuilding industrial complexes throughout Vietnam.
U.S. Navy: Reagan Cuts an Imposing Path
From the USS Monitor to Theodore Roosevelt's "Great White" fleet to today's development of the Littoral Combat Ship, the U.S. Navy, its mission and its physical assets have undergone many complete metamorphoses over the country's 227-year history. Despite all of the recent talk of the "new" navy, there is no greater symbol of U.S. Sea Superiority than the nuclear Aircraft Carrier. And, there is arguably no better namesake for the soon-to-be commissioned CVN-76 than President Ronald Reagan, whose mission of a 600-ship Navy helped to define a generation. At first glance, from outside appearances, CVN-76 may appear to be a standard nuclear Aircraft Carrier, though "standard" is a gross understatement in this instance.
