Inmarsat, IT Partners Bring IP-based Broadband to Fisheries Market

Real-time fisheries management and governance to ensure robust quota compliance and safeguard sustainable fishing.Inmarsat, along with its partners Addvalue Innovation Pte Ltd (Addvalue) and Network Innovations, have launched a type-approved IP-based terminal and Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) for fishing vessels operating in United States (U.S.) waters. The Addvalue iFleetONE communications terminal and proprietary VMS have been type-approved in four of the five U.S. Fisheries Management regions, as required by the U.S.

Vizada, Météo-France Weather Service Contract

Vizada, an independent satellite communications provider, and Météo-France, ameteorological center, have renewed their agreement to provide digital weather information and software to the maritime community. The partnership signing coincides with the release of a new version of its SkyFile Weather solution, based on Météo-France’s latest Navimail software. The new version of SkyFile Weather delivers meteorological information to crew more rapidly through a direct internet connection established via the mobile satellite terminal. This applies to all new generation IP-based services typically found on board ship including Inmarsat FleetBroadband and Iridium OpenPort.

Vizada, Météo-France Weather Service Partnership

Vizada, CLS Form Partnership for LRIT Tracking

Vizada, an independent satellite communications provider, and CLS, specializing in sustainable management of marine resources, environmental monitoring and maritime security, have signed a partnership to jointly provide long range identification and tracking (LRIT) to the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and other Flag States including Vanuatu and Chile. Vizada is the first provider to have met the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) strict performance requirements for the delivery of LRIT, now mandatory for vessels on international voyages for security and search & rescue purposes. Through a significant upgrade to its teleport in France, Vizada ensures the reliable and secure transmission of report data to its partner CLS.

Vizada Launches Mobile Satellite Service

Vizada, an independent satellite communications provider, has launched Inmarsat FleetBroadband 150, a new service for the maritime community developed to deliver voice, IP data and SMS at speeds of up to 150 kbps. Additionally, Addvalue Technologies Ltd. (“Addvalue”) has appointed Vizada as its first Tier 1 distributor partner for Addvalue’s Skipper 150 FleetBroadband terminal. With a mobile satellite terminal measuring 29 cm, the Inmarsat FleetBroadband 150 (FB150) service is designed for smaller vessels with relatively low data requirements, including fishing vessels, leisure boats and smaller merchant vessels such as tug boats.

France Telecom Offers Improved SkyFile

France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications designed new features for its free SkyFile software package, making e-mailing at sea even easier and more practical and providing seafarers with communications solutions as efficient and rapid as those used on land. SkyFile is France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications’ proprietary software solution enabling the transfer of e-mails, faxes and SMS via Inmarsat and Iridium mobile satellite terminals. The new version compresses data sent by up to 90%, speeding up transfer times and reducing communications costs. The software also includes a SPAM filter and a black & white list option for better management of incoming e-mails.
