VT Halter Marine announced the loss of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brigadier General Boyd E. King, (Ret.) who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, 20 April 2009 at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in . The cause of death reportedly was a heart attack. BG (Ret) Boyd King joined VT Halter Marine on December 16, 2002, as CEO. Before his appointment at VTHM, Mr. King was a retired Brigadier General with a 35-year career in the United States Army, culminating in his appointment as Director of Transportation, Energy and Troop Support on the Arm Staff.

VT Halter Marine Inc. and NOAA launched the first of four planned NOAA fisheries survey vessels on October 17. Christened Oscar Dyson by Peggy Dyson-Malson, wife of the late Alaska fisheries industry leader for whom it is named, the ship will be one of the most technologically advanced fisheries survey vessels in the world. Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the scheduled keynote speaker, was unable to attend the ceremony at the VT Halter Marine shipyard in Moss Point, Miss., because of a late-breaking vote on the senate floor.

VT Halter Marine Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems Inc., signed a $5.2 million contract with Tide Leasing Company, L.L.C., of Birmingham, AL to build a stevedoring crane barge. The 200 x 75 x 14.5-ft. foreign flagged vessel will be classed by Lloyd’s Registry Class Designation + 100AN deck barge. Hydralift AmClyde Inc., (AmClyde) will supply the crane for the project. VT Halter Marine plans to complete the barge construction at its Mississippi-based Pascagoula Operations. The scope of work includes installation of the deck winches and crane pedestal and will take about 12 months to comp lete. In the four months that follow, VT Halter Marine will assist AmClyde with the installation and operational testing of the crane.

VT Halter Marine Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems Inc., launched a 95-foot sea-going ferry from its Mississippi-based Pascagoula Operations. Christened the Caribeña, the all-aluminum vessel was designed and built by VT Halter Marine for the Puerto Rico Port Authority. Capable of carrying 272 passengers, the Caribeña will provide inter- island transportation for the Fajardo-Vieques-Culebra Ferry Line. It will be U.S. Coast Guard classed sub-chapter “K” and U.S. flagged. VT Halter Marine plans to complete and deliver the Caribeña during the second quarter of 2004. It could take 10 or more days to make the 1600- mile trip to the Caribeña’s home at the Port of Fajardo, a city located on the east side of the Island of Puerto Rico.

VT Halter Marine Inc. has teamed with Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Electronic Systems sector to bid for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command’s (TACOM) Theater Support Vessel (TSV) project. The TSV will support the Army’s transformation goal of deploying a combat-ready brigade anywhere in the world within 96 hours and will reduce support requirements for large-scale, onshore arrivals. The TSV will allow the Army to rapidly respond to crisis situations by arriving quickly and landing at ports that are too shallow or under-equipped for conventional vessels. With the capacity to transport more than 350 troops plus gear, and the capability to load and unload troops and equipment in as little as 20 minutes…

Anil Raj has resigned as president and COO of VT Halter Marine. According to Boyd King, the company's CEO, Raj has parted company with the firm to pursue other opportunities.
