Texas A&M Partners with Great Lakes to Open Dredging Lab

Muddy Water Dredging Orders New 24" Dredge from DSC

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Plans First Jones Act Rock Installation Vessel

U.S.-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock is developing a first-of-its-kind vessel to support America's burgeoning offshore wind industry.The nation's largest dredging services provider announced Thursday it is working with Ulstein Design and Solutions B.V. to design and develop the first U.S.-flagged Jones Act compliant, inclined fallpipe vessel for subsea rock installation. The specialized vessel would be built at a U.S. Gulf Coast shipyard and could be operational as early as the first quarter of 2024, GLDD said.

China is typically our second largest market after the U.S., and we lost lots of orders to our competitors as the trade war started to affect us. We have had a great first couple of months at the Dredging Contractors of America. As the new CEO and Executive Director, I have begun to visit the companies, their facilities and associated dredging projects. So far, I have surveyed the beach re-nourishment project in Ocean City, Md. undertaken by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock. I’ve canvassed Weeks Marine’s repair and yard facility in Jersey City, N.J. In the last week of February, I visited Mike Hooks Inc.’s corporate headquarters and boatbuilding and repair yard in West Lake, La.

MOL Plan to Build New HQ

MOL Group announced its plans to relocate its corporate headquarters by 2021 to MOL Campus, the company’s new 83,000 sqm office, which will be designed by one of the most renowned architectural studios in the world, the UK-based Foster + Partners. The 120-meter high building, which will be the future workspace for up to 2500 employees, will be located on the banks of the Danube in the southern part of Budapest, close to the current HQ building. The modern design mirrors MOL Group’s bold vision of its 2030 strategy to drive changes across CEE over the few next decades and will also play an essential role in redesigning employee experience. Canadian engineering firm Aspin Kemp and Associates Inc. (AKA) and German based engine and turbomachinery market leader MAN Diesel & Turbo SE have finalized an agreement between the two companies whereby MAN Diesel & Turbo steps in as a 40 percent shareholder in AKA. Through this new partnership, AKA said it will look to build its innovative potential with MAN in a broader market for power and energy solutions. Company co-founder Jason Aspin remains a controlling shareholder and CEO of AKA. Co-founder Neale Kemp has retired from active business operations.

During the weeks of July 18-21, and August 1-4, Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. partnered with SUNY Maritime College and privately hosted the required USCG Leadership & Managerial Skills Course at Bouchard’s corporate headquarters in Melville, N.Y. for all Bouchard tug captains and chief engineers. Bouchard is the first operator to privately host this class for their vessel employees. Effective March 24, 2014, additional training and/or assessments became required for certain Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) endorsements.

Tube-Mac Piping Technologies, founded in 1977, specializes in “non welded piping systems” for lubrication and hydraulic lines. The corporate headquarters is based in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada with a 55,000 SF (5100 SM) component manufacturing and pipe fabrication facility. The firm employs three basic products exist for joining high-pressure pipe or tube. The PYPLOK method works with mechanically attached fittings that are installed cold, in seconds, by swaging the fitting on the pipe with a hydraulic hand held tool.
