ABB, ZPMC to Develop Efficient Propulsion
ABB has signed an agreement with ZPMC (Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co.Ltd), a manufacturer of cranes and steel structures, to jointly develop more efficient propulsion solutions for deep sea offshore vessels. ABB and ZPMC will develop solutions for offshore vessels with demand of relatively deep operating draught, such as heavy carriers or drilling platforms. New solutions will utilize ABB’s Compact Azipod technology, providing advantages in terms of operating efficiency and availability over the whole lifecycle, as well as excellent station keeping capabilities combined with compact size and easy installation. These new solutions would represent an untapped market for ABB’s Azipod propulsion system.
Hooked onto Asia’s Largest Floating Cranes
MAN Diesel’s organization has landed another engine contract in the specialized segment for large floating cranes and construction barges. A newly designed (DLV4400) heavy-lift floating crane from Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co Ltd (ZPMC) with a 4,400 ton lifting capacity will be powered by 7 x MAN Diesel 9L32/40 GenSets. The total installed output of 31.5 MW will supply propulsion power, power for maneuvering, for the crane activities, and to the hotel accommodation load for 250 persons. The vessel, which is designed to propel itself at up to 12 knots in trial condition, will also be equipped with a dynamic positioning system classed GL DynPos–AutR.
Wärtsilä Auxpac Generating Sets to China
Wärtsilä supplied the first of its new Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 generating sets in April. The customer is Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd in China and the generating sets will be installed in a heavy-lifting ship being built at the Jing Jiang Eastern shipyard for Guangzhou Salvage Bureau. Wärtsilä will also supply the vessel's three main engines and steerable thrusters, ordered in 2004. The vessel will be completed in April 2006. Introduced in September 2004, Wärtsilä Auxpac is a standard, pre-commissioned generating set designed to provide auxiliary electricity onboard marine vessels. The sales of the new product have made a strong start and Wärtsilä has already received orders for more than 200 Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 generating sets.
