Voith Opens 'Digital Campus' in Raleigh

Voith marked the opening of its new high-tech campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday that was joined by many key Voith executives and local dignitaries and community leaders. The Digital Campus is the latest venture of the Voith Digital Solutions Division (DS): a campus where bright minds come together to learn, teach, discover and bring the Internet of Things to life for all of Voith’s platforms. Raleigh, being a geographic hub for research and technology, was chosen to be Voith’s North American digital hub for the team there to lead the way for digitization and innovation.

Wartsila India Signs Pact with CSL

Wartsila India, the Indian arm of Finland-based Wartsila Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) for setting up a containerised self-sufficient workshop. As per the MOU, Wartsila plans to locate a containerised self-sufficient workshop within the premises of CSL to cater primarily to propeller blade metallurgical repairs and engine component repairs. Wartsila also plans to support CSL with comprehensive engine services, propulsion services and electrical and automation services based on the requirements, said a press release. Offshore Automation Contract for ABB

ABB wins four-year $16 million automation services contract renewal for PEMEX in Mexico. ABB wins an order worth $16 million for the renewal of a lifecycle service contract to maintain and upgrade automation equipment installed on sixteen offshore production platforms in PEMEX’s Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap Oil Fields. Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap are the largest and most productive oil fields in Mexico, located in the Bay of Campeche, about 100 kilometers northwest of Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. Collectively they produce over 1.3 million barrels of crude oil per day. The contract includes services, upgrades, technical assistance, training and spare parts supply for the Distributed Control Systems (DCS)…

Wärtsilä Opens New Workshop In Gdansk

Wärtsilä's new workshop in Gdansk, Poland strengthens its service offerings to local shipping customers and others visiting Poland. In addition to advanced engine service work, the new workshop will also provide fuel system overhauls and overhauls of bow thruster units. Wärtsilä Expands in Panama

Wärtsilä, a provider of power plant and ship power solutions and services, opened new offices and a workshop in Panama. Located in the International Business Park of Panama Pacifico, the new facilities are intended to meet growing market demand from customers in the area. The new workshop enables Wärtsilä to offer a wide range of services for engines, electrical and automation systems, propellers and thrusters, and to provide reconditioning services. "Panama's strategic importance as one of Latin America's largest logistics centres and as a major area for ship servicing will grow in importance along with the expansion of the Panama Canal," said Markku Aspholm, General Manager, Wärtsilä in Panama.

Wärtsilä Launches Environmental Services

Wärtsilä has introduced a new portfolio of services, Environmental Services, to both the marine and energy market. Environmental Services will help customers to minimize emissions into the air and water, and help them to meet increasingly stringent legislation and regulations. The new portfolio includes a range of products, solutions and services aimed at both land-based power plants and ship installations. As part of the portfolio, Wärtsilä offers catalysts (SCR) that treat nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, while scrubbers are offered for removing sulphur oxides (SOx). Both are harmful emissions that have detrimental effects on humans and nature. Wärtsilä can also offer complete oily water treatment systems for power plants and marine applications that meet the most stringent standards.

Updates on the Shipdex™ Protocol

On October 7th 2008, Digital Ship held its 2nd conference for Shipdex™, a new protocol to provide ship technical information electronically, rather than on paper. Shipdex™ was founded in 2007 by two senior managers of shipping companies, Grimaldi Naples and Intership Navigation, who thought that the industry should move beyond supplying all technical paperwork (including maintenance and repair manuals, lists of spare parts and drawings) as paper documents, which then have to be typed into company maintenance and purchasing systems.

W&O Supply Appoints Two

W&O Supply, a supplier of marine valves, pipes, fittings and valve automation services, hired Jim Baur as general manager of the Automation Division. Working in conjunction with W&O Supply’s subsidiary, Valve Automation & Control, Jim will be responsible for launching and overseeing the company’s automation expertise to a nationwide audience. “Jim is a valuable addition to our team, especially in our initiative of expanding and promoting our valve automation capabilities across the country,” said David Turner, W&O Supply’s President and CEO. Prior to joining W&O Supply, Baur was vice president of Marine for Wartsila North America. W&O Supply also hired Jenny Brandies as the new director of material management.

W&O Supply Partners with Atlantic Marine

W&O Supply, a supplier of marine valves, pipe, fittings and valve automation services, signed a Master Commodity Agreement with the Atlantic Marine Holding Company and its subsidiaries. The agreement allows Atlantic Marine and its shipyards on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico to offer more aggressive pricing on new construction and repair products, carry a full line of inventory and enhance service arrangements for their customers.
