Fairbanks Morse Ships USS Cleveland (LCS 31) Engines

Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME), a division of Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), shipped two 16-cylinder Fairbanks Morse engines to Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wis., for the USS Cleveland (LCS 31), the 16th ship of the U.S. Navy's Freedom-class LCS variant.FME was awarded a contract in 2019 to build and deliver Main Propulsion Diesel Engines (MPDE's) for the vessel.FME has provided power and propulsion services to the U.S. Navy for more than 70 years and powers more than 80% of the Navy's ships with medium-speed applications.

Jaap de Lange Named MD at AEGIR-Marine

Jaap de Lange was appointed Managing Director of AEGIR-Marine.

Jaap de Lange was appointed Managing Director of AEGIR-Marine, a stern seal and propulsion services company. He started his career in the Royal Dutch Navy, and was in consulting for 23 years in a variety of roles. Gibdock Performs Quick Freight Ferry Repair

Gibdock has redelivered the Seatruck Ferries container/ro-ro vessel Clipper Point on-time, after a fast turnaround 11-day renewal project for the Clipper Group-owned operator. The ship has subsequently been introduced to Seatrucksā€™ Irish Sea operations. Returning Gibdock customer Seatruck scheduled the 5,193dwt Clipper Point to arrive in the yard on September 18. The 142m long (23m beam) freight ferry left the yard after the jobā€™s completion on September 30. The scope of the project included completion of her statutory classification surveys involving inspections of the hullā€¦

Wartsila India Signs Pact with CSL

Wartsila India, the Indian arm of Finland-based Wartsila Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) for setting up a containerised self-sufficient workshop. As per the MOU, Wartsila plans to locate a containerised self-sufficient workshop within the premises of CSL to cater primarily to propeller blade metallurgical repairs and engine component repairs. Wartsila also plans to support CSL with comprehensive engine services, propulsion services and electrical and automation services based on the requirements, said a press release. MPR, MPS ISO-9001 Certified

Maritime Propeller Repairs BV, together with its sister company Maritime Propulsion Services BV, acquired ISO-9001 certification. During an audit by Bureau Veritas, both companies proved to have their affairs well arranged. On July 2 Marcel Arends, senior lead auditor at Bureau Veritas, came to MPRā€™s workshop in Drunen. He had been at the main office in Zutphen a month earlier, and now it was time for the MPR-workers to receive their audit. Living up to his motto, ā€˜severe but sincere,ā€™ he submitted the heart of MPR, its workforce, to a rigorous inspection.

MPS Holds Open House

There was record attendance at the Maritime Propulsion Services BV (MPS) open day on May 23 when more than 200 delegates from shipyards, classification societies and workshops around the world gathered together in Drunen. Apart from the four propellers which were in the workshop for repair, on display were some of the latest developments in quality control as well as repair procedures and technology. These included state of the art nondestructive ultrasonic techniques to inspect either for porosities in bronze castings or weld repairs on propeller blades.

Wärtsilä Propulsion Condition Monitoring Service

Wärtsilä announced the launch of a unique Propulsion Condition Monitoring Service (PCMS), designed to provide customers with real-time data and advanced analytics on the condition of a vessel's propulsion equipment. Ship owners will have access to information and analysis needed to ensure that propulsion systems operate at peak efficiency throughout their lifecycle. PCMS allows ship operators to prevent damage and lower life cycle costs, as well as limit their vessel's environmental impact by keeping propulsion systems operating at high efficiency. The need for periodical inspection of propulsion equipment can be eliminated by successfully integrating PCMS in the maintenance program.

Wärtsilä Launches Environmental Services

Wärtsilä has introduced a new portfolio of services, Environmental Services, to both the marine and energy market. Environmental Services will help customers to minimize emissions into the air and water, and help them to meet increasingly stringent legislation and regulations. The new portfolio includes a range of products, solutions and services aimed at both land-based power plants and ship installations. As part of the portfolio, Wärtsilä offers catalysts (SCR) that treat nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, while scrubbers are offered for removing sulphur oxides (SOx). Both are harmful emissions that have detrimental effects on humans and nature. Wärtsilä can also offer complete oily water treatment systems for power plants and marine applications that meet the most stringent standards.
