Wärtsilä Wins UK Aircraft Carrier Contract

Wärtsilä will supply main diesel generating sets and their auxiliary and support systems for the Royal Navy's Future Aircraft Carriers. Wärtsilä has been awarded the contract for approx EUR 30 million for the manufacture and supply of the main diesel generating sets and their auxiliary and support systems for the Royal Navy's Future Aircraft Carriers (CVF) by Thales Naval Division on behalf of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance. The contract award was marked by a ceremony held on HMS Victory in Portsmouth Naval Base, UK, on 30 November 2007.

Wärtsilä to Power New DE Tanker

Wärtsilä Corporation received a contract to supply main diesel generating sets for a 19,500 dwt product/chemical tanker being built at Shanghai Edward Shipbuilding in the People's Republic of China. Delivery of the ship is scheduled in August 2005. Ordered by Sweden’s Rederi AB Donsötank, the newbuilding is a double-acting tanker (DAT) which is optimized for efficient ice-breaking when going astern and for efficient sailing in open water when going ahead. Propulsion is by a single electrically-driven azimuthing propeller drive.

Wärtsilä Powers New Bay-class Landing Ships

Wärtsilä Corporation has received the contract to supply the diesel generating sets for two new Bay-class Alternative Landing Ships Logistic (ALSL) building for the UK RFA. The four main diesel-generating sets in each ship will be powered by Wärtsilä 26 diesel engines: each ship having two Wärtsilä 8L26 and two Wärtsilä 12V26 engines. Wärtsilä will also deliver an emergency diesel generating set to each ship. Additional ship sets for a further two vessels to be built at BAE Systems Govan yard will also be supplied subject to pending optional contract. The first two ships, newbuilding numbers 141 and 142, are to be built at Swan Hunter (Tyneside) Ltd in the UK. The twin-screw vessels will have diesel-electric propulsion.
