Boskalis Acquires Fairmount Companies

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) announces that it has reached an agreement to acquire Fairmount Marine B.V. and Fairmount Ocean Towage Company B.V. (Fairmount) from the French group Louis Dreyfus Armateurs. The transaction values the company at an average multiple of approximately six times EBITDA. Wärtsilä Power for Long-distance Towage

Wärtsilä won a contract to provide propulsion plants for a pair of deep-sea tugs being built by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Inc in Japan for the Rotterdam-based towage contractor Fairmount Marine BV. The 75-m long tugs will each be powered by a complete Wärtsilä propulsion system, comprising Wärtsilä engines, Wärtsilä gearboxes, Lips controllable pitch propellers, Lips high efficiency nozzles and a Lipstronic integrated control and manoeuvring system. The four Wärtsilä 6L32 diesel engines in each tug deliver a combined maximum output of 12,000kW at 750 rpm.

Wärtsilä Power for Long-distance Towage

Wärtsilä won a contract to provide propulsion plants for a pair of deep-sea tugs being built by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Inc in Japan for the Rotterdam-based towage contractor Fairmount Marine BV. The 246 ft. long tugs will each be powered by a complete Wärtsilä propulsion system, comprising Wärtsilä engines, Wärtsilä gearboxes, Lips controllable pitch propellers, Lips high efficiency nozzles and a Lipstronic integrated control and manoeuvring system. The four Wärtsilä 6L32 diesel engines in each tug deliver a combined maximum output of 12,000 kW at 750 rpm. The engines are connected to a pair of twin-in/single-out gearboxes with a secondary driven 1,200 kW power take-off for electricity generation at sea.

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Buys Fairmount

After two years of collaboration with Fairmount Marine BV, Louis Dreyfus Armateurs has strengthened its services to the offshore industry through the acquisition of Fairmount, a Dutch company. the acquisition of Fairmount Marine. For two years, since the common operation of the Gavea Lifter semi-submersible heavy transportation barge, the two companies have learned to work together. Louis Dreyfus Armateurs decided to acquire Fairmount to develop the company in the longer term. Ocean towage is a promising market and LDA excels in developing niche sectors and added value. A global ocean towage specialist, Fairmount was established 30 years ago by Mr Henk J. van den Berg.

Wartsila Diesel Electric Power for Heavy Lift Vessels

Wärtsilä diesel-electric propulsion plants of 11.5 MW have been ordered in August for two heavy-lift transport vessels to be converted for Fairmount Heavy Transport NV, an associated company of the Rotterdam-based towage contractor Fairmount Marine BV. The "Fairmount Fjord" and "Fairmount Fjell" were originally semi-submersible barges and are being converted to self-propelled heavy-lift transport vessels. When the conversions are completed in the second half of 2006, the vessels will be primarily employed in the transport of offshore equipment such as jack-up and semi-submersible drilling rigs, and floating production units for the offshore oil and gas industry. With this type of vessel, the cargo is loaded and unloaded when the vessel is ballasted down to a semi-submerged condition.
