W&D Delivers Z-Drive FiFi Tug

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. of East Boothbay, Maine delivered Bulldog, a 98 x 37 ft., 6,700 hp, Z Drive firefighting tug, to Crescent Towing of New Orleans, La. Bulldog provides ship-assist and escort services for LNG tankers at the Elba Island LNG re-gasification terminal in Savannah, Ga. Bulldog is a new Washburn & Doughty in-house design and the first tug built at the yard for Crescent Towing. Washburn & Doughty's Chief Naval Architect and Vice President, Bruce Washburn, drew on the company's experience designing and building Z-Drive Tugs for ship docking and LNG operations while designing the 98-ft. Large Contract Spurs Washburn & Doughty to Develop New Construction Methods

Washburn & Doughty Shipyard of East Boothbay, Maine is preparing to launch Tracy Moran, the fourth in a series of six Z-Drive Tugs under construction for the Moran Towing Corporation of Greenwich, Conn. Tracy Moran will join sisterships Marci Moran (1999 MarineNews Great Boat), Karen Moran and Susan Moran in Norfolk, Va. where they are contracted by the Military Sealift Command for submarine and ship assist work. Measuring 92 x 32 x 13.8 ft. and built to ABS Maltese Cross A1, AMS, Towing Service standards, Tracy Moran is powered by two 2,000 hp EMD 16-645-EZ main engines driving Ulstein Z Drives. Tracy Moran was designed by Washburn & Doughty's vice-president and naval architect, Bruce Washburn. The Moran tugs are built to Washburn's second Z-Drive Tug design.

Washburn & Doughty: Developing New Process To Meet Changing Needs

Washburn & Doughty Shipyard of East Boothbay, Maine is preparing to launch Tracy Moran, the fourth in a series of six Z-Drive Tugs under construction for the Moran Towing Corporation of Greenwich, Conn. Tracy Moran will join its sisterships in Norfolk, Va. where they are contracted by the Military Sealift Command for submarine and ship assist work. Measuring 92 x 32 x 13.8 ft. (28 x 9.7 x 4.2 m) and built to ABS Maltese Cross A1, AMS, Towing Service standards, Tracy Moran is powered by two 2,000 hp EMD 16-645-EZ main engines driving Ulstein Z Drives. Service speed for Tracy Moran is planned for 13 knots and the vessel has a 32,000 gallon fuel oil capacity.
