Washburn & Doughty Wins Hybrid Tug Orders

East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. The vessel will be built as a Harbor Assist Vessel as defined in USCG Subchapter M and admeasure less than 200 gross tons U.S. regulatory tonnage. W&D Delivers the Kaye E. Moran

Late last year, Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. of East Boothbay, Maine delivered Kaye E. Moran, a 92’ x 32’, 5100 HP Z Drive Firefighting Tug, to the Moran Towing Corporation of New Canaan, Connecticut. The vessel will be used to provide ship-assist services for LNG tankers at the recently reopened Dominion Cove Point LNG storage terminal south of Baltimore, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. Kaye E. 5,000-HP Z-Drive Tug Delivered

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. delivered the 5,000 hp Z-Drive Tug Independent to Marine Towing of Tampa. The 92 x 32 x 13.7-ft. tug is designed for ship handling and built to ABS Class Maltese Cross A1, Maltese Cross AMS, with notation: Towing Service and Fire Fighting Capability. Independent admeasures 148 gt and has a Load Line based on USA flag registry and USCG rules. Bollard pull is estimated at 135,000 lbs ahead and 130,000 lbs astern. Independent is powered by High Displacement Caterpillar 3516 B main engines – rated at 2,500 bhp @ 1,600 rpm – with electronic injection.

Washburn & Doughty Wins Tug Contract

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. signed a contract to build a 92 x 32-ft. Z-Drive Tug for the Providence Steamboat Company. Providence Steamboat Company, located in Providence, RI, operates tugboats on Narragansett Bay and adjacent southeast New England waters. Engaged primarily in vessel assist work, the company has six tugs with two under construction. The vessel currently being built by Washburn & Doughty is Providence Steamboat’s first Z Drive Tug. Delivery is scheduled for December 2004. The new tug will be powered by two Caterpillar 3516HD main engines each rated at 2,500 hp @ 1,600 rpm. The propulsion units will be Rolls-Royce Aquamaster model US 205 Z Drives with NiBrAl 90.5-in. propellers and Kort nozzles lined with stainless steel.

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. delivered the 5,000 hp Z-Drive Tug Independent to Marine Towing of Tampa. Washburn & Doughty and BTT Team Up to Build Tugs for LNG Application

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. of East Boothbay, Maine is currently building two 4400 HP Z Drive (ASD) Tugs for Boston Towing & Transportation Company (BTT) of Boston, Massachusetts. The vessels measure 92’ x 32’ x 13’9” and have an estimated bollard pull of 110,000 lbs ahead and 105,000 lbs astern. BTT is a division of Reinauer Transportation Companies of Staten Island, New York. The vessels, which will be named Freedom and Liberty, were design to fulfill BTT’s contract with Tractebel LNG Shipping North America LLC. Tractebel brings LNG ships into Boston Harbor. The tugs will assist the LNG tankers during inbound and outbound transits and will be used to turn the ships 180° in the basin east of the Tobin Bridge and back them under the bridge to their Mystic River berth.

The vessels measure 92 x 32 x 13.75 ft. and have an estimated bollard pull of 110,000 lbs ahead and 105,000 lbs astern.
