Austal to Build Two More Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats for Australian Navy

The Australian Department of Defense will order an additional two Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats (ECCPB’s) for the Royal Australian Navy from shipbuilder Austal for $124 million. The two new vessels are in addition to the six Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats that are currently being delivered by Austal Australia for the Royal Australian Navy.The announcement was made during a visit by Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, to Austal's Henderson Western Australia shipyard.

Austal Delivers 7th Cape Class Patrol Boat

Shipbuilder Austal Limited announced it has delivered Cape Wessel, the seventh of eight Cape Class patrol boats being supplied to Australian Border Force under a $330 million design, build and in-service support contract. “The on-time delivery of Cape Wessel and continued efficiencies across the program reinforce Austal’s capability to reliably build and sustain naval and border protection vessels,” said Austal CEO Andrew Bellamy. “Our team at the Henderson shipyard have again demonstrated their ability to meet contracted timeframes.

Australia, US Alliance on Display for Talisman Sabre

More than 33,000 U.S. and Australian personnel will participate in the biennial military training exercise Talisman Sabre 2015 in Australia July 4-19. Talisman Sabre, jointly sponsored by the U.S. Pacific Command and Australian Defence Force Headquarters Joint Operations Command, will incorporate U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force and the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force as well as other government agencies from each country. Featuring 21 ships, including the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) and more than 200 aircraft and three submarines, this sixth iteration of the exercise will focus on joint training of a combined task force of U.S.

Austal Delivers Sixth Cape Class Patrol Boat

Austal Limited announced it has delivered Cape Leveque, the sixth of eight Cape Class Patrol Boats being supplied to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service under a $330 million design, build and in-service support contract. Cape Leveque is named after the northernmost tip of the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Austal Chief Executive Officer Andrew Bellamy said that with three quarters of the Cape Class fleet now delivered, Austal continued to demonstrate its credentials as a partner of choice for government defence vessel programs.

Austal Delivers Fifth Cape Class Patrol Boat

Austal Limited has delivered Cape Jervis, the fifth of eight 58-meter aluminum monohull Cape Class Patrol Boats for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service under a $330 million design, build and in-service support contract. In August 2011, Austal was awarded the contract for the design, construction and through-life support of the Cape Class patrol boats, the remaining three of which are at various stages of construction and will be delivered progressively through late 2015.

Austal has launched the sixth in-series Cape Class Patrol Boat (CCPB) at the company’s Australian Defense Facility in Henderson, Western Australia. Keels Laid for Oman’s New Naval Ships

Austal Australia has completed the keel laying for two 72-meter High Speed Support Vessels (HSSVs) for the Royal Navy of Oman. The occasion was formally recognized at an event held today at Austal’s Australian Shipyard in Henderson, Western Australia. Keel-laying traditionally marks the first significant milestone in a ship’s construction. In old Maritime tradition, historically keel-laying was the “laying down” of the main timber making up the backbone of a vessel. Austal’s advanced modular shipbuilding techniques means fabrication of ship modules begin well before they are actually joined.

Specialist shipbuilder Strategic Marine has delivered the On-Station vessel Thaiyak to the Australian Customs & Border Protection Service (ACBPS). Australia to Review Indonesia-bound Vessels

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) and the Australian Defense Force have commenced a joint review into Australian vessels which entered Indonesian waters contrary to Australian Government policy, during operations conducted in association with Operation Sovereign Borders. The review was announced by Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and Commander Joint Agency Task Force Lieutenant General Angus Campbell DSC, AM, on Friday, January 17, 2014. The review will be co-chaired by senior officers from the ACBPS and the Australian Defense Force. ACBPS and Defense acknowledge the seriousness of this matter and the urgency required as a consequence of the importance of our relationship with Indonesia.

US Coast Guard, Australia Customs, Sign Maritime Awareness MOU

The U.S. Coast Guard and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service have signed a memorandum of understanding to highlight common missions, interests and capabilities, along with opportunities for collaboration for mutual benefit. The MOU is intended to benefit the U.S. and Australia partnership by strengthening maritime cooperation through the sharing of information needed for maritime domain awareness activities. Also, it will encourage and promote cooperation in the areas of personnel development, research and other areas relating to civil maritime law enforcement operations.

Raytheon Demo Advanced Maritime Radar in Australia

Raytheon Company completes test and demonstration flights of the SeaVue XMC (eXpanded Mission Capability) maritime surveillance radar in Australia. The SeaVue XMC maritime surveillance radar's innovative features provide both radar and mission system advanced capabilities, such as automatically detecting, tracking and sorting thousands of maritime targets simultaneously and correlating radar tracks with Automatic Identification System (AIS) contacts. The system also geographically registers radar detections to AIS data and digital nautical chart features, allowing for more precise target tracking, locating of threats and accurate cross-sensor cueing to the electro-optic system.

Mariner Omnipure M55 Selected for Australian Patrol Boats

The Mariner Omnipure sewage treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has been installed on Cape St George, a new patrol boat designed and constructed by Austal for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. Cape St George is the first in a series of eight patrol boats to be delivered to the owners between March 2013 and February 2015, which will all be outfitted with the Mariner Omnipure M5508 system. The contract was secured through HMA-POGC of Australia. The new Cape Class patrol fleet was designed and constructed by Austal, a global defense prime contractor.

The 'Cape St George' has been named during a ceremony held at Austal’s Henderson shipyard in Western Australia. Cape St George is the first of eight new boats being built by Austal for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service under a design, construct and in-service support contract valued at approximately A$330 million. The naming ceremony was attended by the Australian Special Minister for State, the Hon. Gary Gray AO; and former President of the Australian Senate Margaret Reid AO, who officially named the vessel.
