Eastern's Columbia on Display in Fort Lauderdale

Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s reengineered Columbia, built from the original design plans of the classic 1923 Essex-built schooner, will be on display at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30-November 3, 2014. The original Columbia, a 141’ classic Gloucester Fishing Schooner designed by William Starling Burgess, built at the historic A.D. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts and launched April 17, 1923, was bred for speed, challenging – and nearly defeating – Canada’s legendary Bluenose schooner in the International Fishermen’s Cup Races in Halifax.

Twin Disc Offers Virtual and Real EJS Experience

Visitors to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30–November 3, 2014, can experience what it’s like to control a diesel-powered, conventional driveline boat using Twin Disc's Express Joystick System (EJS). Twin Disc's booth will feature a unique, hands-on simulator where visitors can maneuver and dock a virtual boat using the fingertip control of the EJS. Offering intuitive control over a boat while docking, the EJS responds instantly to the slightest pressure using its "push, twist and go" technology, giving the boater ultimate command over speed and direction, Twin Disc said.

1923 Schooner Replica Completes Sailing Trials

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) announced that the Columbia (ESG Hull 981) a steel hull exact replica of the historic Gloucester Fishing Schooner, has completed her sailing trials. The sailing trials were held on September 18, 2014 directly offshore of the beaches of Panama City, Florida. Ninety-one years earlier, the original Columbia was officially measured on October 27, 1923 just before her race with the Bluenose by Raymond J. Milgate, a marine surveyor of Halifax, N.S. The original Columbia was a 141’ classic wooden hull Gloucester Fishing Schooner built at the historic A.D.

ESG Replicates Historic Schooner 'Columbia'

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) informs that a steel hull replica of the historic Gloucester Fishing Schooner COLUMBA has been launched at its Panama City, Florida, shipyard with employees, dignitaries and guests in attendance. The original COLUMBIA was a 141’ classic Gloucester Fishing Schooner built at the historic A.D. Story shipyard of Essex, Massachusetts, which was the center for North American Fishing Schooner construction. At the christening ceremony, Brian D’Isernia, owner of Eastern Shipbuilding Group spoke about the journey of bringing the COLUMBIA back to life, the teamwork of the companies, and thanked the hard work of the men and women that made this dream possible. Caterpillar Marine say they will unveil a significant product milestone at the 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, introducing the Cat® Three60 Pod 650, which is specifically designed for the new Cat C8.7 electronically controlled marine propulsion engine. The new Cat Three60 Pod 650 revolutionizes docking and slow-speed maneuvering for diesel-powered yachts. Available in spring 2015, the pod is specifically designed to be remarkably easy for customers to learn, with easy ‘push, twist and go’ maneuvering.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 25-29, 2012, sees the debut of Swedish-built powerboat Delta 80 IPS. Since its inception, Delta Powerboats has continuously developed new models and now they offer a current model portfolio of six boat models from 26 feet to 54 feet. In 2013, just in time for the10th anniversary of the company, the latest representative of modern Scandinavian boat-building will be presented – Delta 80 IPS. The manufacturers say that the design and craftsmanship of this boat is characteristic of the entire Delta model program and it is imbued with sustainability.

WESMAR Introduces New Digital Controls

WESMAR will be rolling out their complete line of Bow and Stern Thrusters, Roll Fin Stabilizers, APU systems, navigational and fish finding sonar at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show October 29 – November 2. Included will be new high speed digital controllers for the Roll Fin Stabilizers. Included in the booth will be new digital controls that expand the interfaces of the WESMAR stabilizers with onboard displays, improve fuel efficiencies on high-speed boats, add to seamless fin alignment abilities, improve stabilization by expanding gyro sampling, display pressure rate, and much more. They are also offered as an option to existing WESMAR and other stabilizer fins.

Zeus Thermal Camera System on the Odessa

A Zeus Night-Vision Camera System from the manufacturer OceanView Technologies Inc. is now featured on Christensen Shipyards' newest launch, set to debut at the 2009 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 29 – November 2. The 160-ft Odessa is the first Christensen yacht to feature a black hull and silver painted superstructure. The Zeus Thermal Camera System is painted metallic silver to match the superstructure. The Zeus multi-sensor camera features three cameras in one robust unit, a thermal zoom, low-light zoom and color zoom all in one.
