Magseis to Acquire Fairfield Seismic Technologies

Norwegian ocean-bottom seismic specialist Magseis entered into a $233 million deal to acquire the Seismic Technologies business from Fairfield Geotechnologies."Magseis will acquire the Seismic Technologies business from Fairfield comprising data acquisition, nodal and system sale & rental activities, including all shares in Fairfield's wholly owned U.K. subsidiary WGP Group," said a press release from the company.The name of the new business will be Magseis Fairfield. Fairfield Geotechnologies will remain privately held by the Sugahara family through Fairfield-Maxwell and focus its efforts on data licensing and data processing, as well as imagingā€¦

JV for 3D seismic in Arctic

Paris-listed seismic giant CGG and Russia's largest shipowner, SCF Group (Sovcomflot), have formally registered a joint-venture company focused on coldwater  surveys, reports Interfax. The joint venture, to be called Arctic Geophysical Exploration (AGE), will be 51 per cent owned by Sovcomflot and 49 per cent owned by CGG. The company will be incorporated in Russia with its headquarters in Moscow. CGG and Sovcomflot will have a combined total of four vessels scheduled to operate on client projects during the 2014 Arctic navigation season and expect the joint venture to be fully operational by Q4 2014 in order to capture the growing 3D seismic market in this region. Alexander Dolgachev is the general director.

WesternGeco Awarded Contract

ExxonMobil Exploration has awarded WesternGeco a multiproject Q-Marine contract to cover three ExxonMobil assets in West Africa, the Gulf of Mexico, and the North Sea. Q is the WesternGeco proprietary suite of advanced seismic technologies for enhanced reservoir location, description, and management. The surveys will be conducted by the Geco Topaz and the Western Neptune, two of the four WesternGeco Q-Technology vessels. The North Sea and Gulf of Mexico surveys are underway, with the West Africa survey scheduled for later in the year.
