MSC Confirms Order for Hydrogen Cruise Ship Pair

The total investment in six luxury ships for Explora Journeys worth $3.7BMSC Group Cruises Division confirmed the order of two hydrogen ships for its luxury brand Explora Journeys with Fincantieri, confirming its commitment to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050. The contracts are conditional on obtaining financing for the shipowner.The two new ships will pursue the use of liquid hydrogen fuel cells for hotel operations while in port, to eliminate carbon emissions with engines turned off.

Hurtigruten Unveils Zero-Emission Cruise Ship

Cruise operator Hurtigruten Norway has unveiled early concept plans for its first zero-emission ship.Initially announced in March 2022, under project name ‘Sea Zero,’ the ship is being touted as "the world’s most energy-efficient cruise ship". Royal Caribbean Group announced Laura Hodges Bethge will take over as president of its Celebrity Cruises brand, succeeding Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, who will transition to vice chair, external affairs for Royal Caribbean Group, effective May 1.Hodges Bethge, currently Celebrity Cruises' executive vice president, shared services operations, has been with the company more than 23 years and has held senior positions in many different areas including product development, hotel and marine operations, sales, marketing, product innovation, market development and investor relations.

Great Lakes Cruising Inks New Lease Agreement with Port Milwaukee

Port Milwaukee is entering into a lease agreement with Pearl Seas Cruises to give the company priority docking rights for its cruise ships at Pier Wisconsin, the downtown dock immediately east of Discovery World museum. The Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the agreement at its meeting Thursday morning.“Pearl Seas has been a great partner with our port, bringing passengers to our city and establishing Milwaukee as a center of Great Lakes cruising,” Mayor Tom Barrett said. “Starting with the 2021 cruise season, that partnership is growing, which is wonderful news for the city, for Pearl Seas, and for the vacationers discovering Great Lakes Cruising.”The cruise line’s ship, the Pearl Mist, has visited Milwaukee regularly in recent years.

Fincantieri Launches Carnival Horizon

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, Carnival Horizon, was launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera, Italy. Interior fittings will now begin, leading the ship to its delivery, scheduled in spring 2018. The new cruise liner, sister ship of Carnival Vista, the largest ship which Fincantieri has ever built for the Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet, delivered in Monfalcone in April 2016, will have a gross tonnage of 133,500 tons, be 323 meters long and accommodate more than 6,400 people onboard, including the staff.

ISS wins global Hurtigruten contract

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime and logistics service provider, has won a global port agency contract with Hurtigruten, a world leader in expedition travel. The new business sees ISS providing Hurtigruten with port agency services across the globe for up to four years, as well as helping to support and advise the company with the management of its rapid worldwide expansion plans. Holland America Line has promoted Gerald Mosslinger to vice president, food and beverage, as part of the renamed Guest Experience and Product Development Department that was formerly the Marine Hotel Operations Department. Cruise Shipping Miami 2015 is gearing up to offer the most comprehensive and robust roster of panel discussions featuring the industry's most knowledgeable and experienced executives. The panels will be grouped under several broad themes based on industry trends during the four-day conference. Orlando Ashford is President, Holland America Line

Holland America Line announced today that effective Dec. 1 Orlando Ashford will join the company as president to lead the award-winning cruise line's brand and business, including its fleet of 15 premium vessels carrying approximately 850,000 guests annually to all seven continents. Holland American Line Launches 'Dive-in At The Terrace Grill’

Holland America Line is enhancing the Terrace Grill on its 15 premium ships and rebranding the popular lunch spot as “Dive-In at the Terrace Grill.” The outdoor bistro-style grill area by the ships’ Lido pool will feature new signature burgers, hot dogs and fries. The first ships to open the new gourmet grill were ms Eurodam, ms Amsterdam and ms Maasdam. The remaining ships in the fleet will be opening Dive-In at the Terrace Grill throughout summer 2014. Bayley has been with Royal Caribbean for over 30 years, most recently as Executive Vice President of Operations. Mazloum Heads Crystal Cruises’ Fleet Ops

Thomas Mazloum has been promoted to Crystal Cruises’ senior vice president, operations. Mazloum, who has served as Crystal’s senior vice president, hotel operations, since 2003 assumed the responsibilities for the fleet’s marine operations this month with the March 31 retirement of Joe Valenti, Crystal’s senior vice president, marine operations. As head of hotel operations for Crystal Cruises, Mazloum’s responsibilities include the supervision of Crystal’s food and beverage, entertainment, quality assurance, land programs, service training, onboard guest services and profit centers, and purchasing department. In Mazloum’s new role he will also oversee the ships’ technical and nautical operations, regulatory compliance, safety and security, environmental stewardship, and seagoing personnel.

Sauleau Rejoins Silversea Cruises

Christian Sauleau has rejoined Silversea Cruises as executive vice president of fleet operations, overseeing marine, technical, hotel, crewing, entertainment and land programs. He reports to the company's CEO, Amerigo Perasso. Sauleau was the line's senior vice president of operations in the mid-1990s, and was instrumental in developing the award-winning company's exceptional reputation for personalized service and hospitality. He will be based in the office. Sauleau was recently the executive vice president of operations at Regent Seven Seas Cruises, where he played an integral role in the expansion of their fleet, overseeing construction of new vessels. His career also includes several years at Royal Viking Line in both shipboard and shoreside capacities.
