‘ROBOSHIP’ Takes to the Water off Japan

As maritime barrels toward an autonomous future, the ROBOSHIP Joint Value Creation Project is one that is making waves, literally and figuratively, as a proof of concept (PoC) test using two actual surface vessels was jointly conducted on November 11.This PoC test held in the sea off Toyosu in Tokyo is using a passenger vessel owned by Tokyo Cruise Ship Co., Ltd., and is intended to demonstrate the technologies with the aim of supporting the development and widespread adoption of a navigational support system for coastal vessels.Putting ROBOSHIP to the TestThe PoC was led by e5 Lab Inc.…

Sakura Leader: New LNG-fueled Pure Car Carrier Enters Service

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. completed installation of the first unit of an LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuel gas supply system (FGSS) for marine dual fuel engines, delivered in November last year, on the pure car carrier (PCC) built by Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Mitsubishi Delivered First LNG FGSS Fueled PCC

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has delivered the first LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fuel supply system "FGSS (Fuel Gas Supply System)" for dual fuel marine engines. This system will be installed onboard the first LNG fueled pure car carrier (PCC) built in Japan, which is currently under construction at Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.The FGSS is an LNG fuel gas supply system developed by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding utilizing LNG and vaporized gas handling technology developed through its long experience on the construction of LNG carriers…

Aker Arctic Acquires Canada’s Akac

Aker Arctic Technology Inc has acquired full ownership of Canadian based company Akac Inc, which is known in the oil and gas industry for its involvement in the Arctic offshore projects and operations. According to Aker Arctic Technology, the acquisition strengthens its position in the field of Arctic offshore work. Akac provides tailored solutions and consultancy to enhance the operability, efficiency and safety of offshore operations in ice conditions. The ownership change is effective as of June 1, 2015.

ABB wins Statoil order to install high voltage power subsea cables  to the 'Troll' A gas platform on the western coast of Norway. The Troll A concrete deep water structure is the world’s largest natural gas production platform, 473 meters tall and weighs 1.2 million tons; it is the tallest structure ever to be moved by mankind. The platform can produce as much as 120 million cubic meters per day; it contains approximately 40 percent of the natural gas reserves on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and is a cornerstone of the gas supply to the European Continent.

LINCS Offshore Wind Farm Cable Installed

Centrica Renewables Energy has confirmed that Global Marine Energy., the independent provider of subsea power cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services worldwide, has successfully completed its portion of the cable landing and near shore cable works related to the export cable at the LINCS Offshore wind farm. Global Marine Energy installed the approximately 8km of 132 kV subsea power cable utilising the cable barge Nautilus Maxi which had been modified to meet the unique requirements of the project. The LINCS offshore wind farm is located off the east coast of the United Kingdom is a joint venture between Centrica (50%) DONG Energy and Siemens Project Ventures.

International FPSO moorings and marine engineering services business, Sigma Offshore, has added new impetus to its growth plans by appointing an experienced industry figure to head up one of its key service areas. Geir Eik has become Vice-President Internal Turret Systems at Aberdeen-headquartered Sigma Offshore as the business looks to sustain and enhance its capabilities across its product and service range.

ABB Wins Order Worth $20M

ABB won an order worth $20m to provide complete power systems, drilling drive and propulsion systems for a new deep water drilling rig to be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) at its shipyard in South Korea. The end customer is Brazilian ship owner Petroserv, who will operate the drilling rig for Petrobras. The rig is scheduled to be commissioned by early 2012. ABB will supply complete electrical systems for the semi-submersible drilling rig, which will be used for oil and gas exploration drilling. The delivery includes power generation and the high and low voltage distribution systems, the drilling drive system, the propulsion drive system, as well as related engineering services.

Wilhelmsen Wins Contract from Meyer Werft

Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering won an order from Meyer Werft in Germany to finalize the cruise ship AIDAblu and two new cruise vessels, NB689 (unnamed) and NB690 (unnamed) being built for the German cruise operator, AIDA Cruises. Under the terms of the deal, Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering's subsidiary, Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt will deliver heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related engineering services. The order has an estimated value of EURO 10.4 million. The company has been involved in AIDA's new building program since 2004 and has delivered HVAC system design and advanced equipment to AIDAdiva, AIDAluna, AIDAbella and AIDAblu.
