The Onondaga County Department of Drainage and Santiation recently
chose an aluminum Workskiff 23 to house water sampling equipment
on Lake Onondaga
, near Syracuse, N.Y.
The boat will be equipped with instruments and equipment for water sampling to monitor improvement in water quality.
Sanitary Engineer Nicholas Capozza said
the boat will be equipped with struts off the side with pulleys to handle water sampling gear, sampling gear, sampling tables and various instruments like GPS with
differential global positioning capabilities, depth finder and other portable sampling equipment
The boat will be driven by a 150 hp Mercury outboard with EFI (electronic fuel injection). The boat will operate year-round, except when ice covers the lake.
As protection against the weather, the Workskiff 23 includes a walk-through pilothouse, utilizing a new, aft-slanted, streamlines configuration developed by Workskiff engineers.
Workskiff builds aluminum boats for "severe" service in sizes ranging from 16 to 25 ft. utilizing 5086 marine aluminum. A self-bailing .188 in. diamond plate flat floor facilitates installation of a variety of equipment. A double- bottom with longitudinals give the boat massive strength and a full "vee" bottom enhances tough water handling.
A Workskiff 23 utilizes .25 in. bottom plate and .188 in. sides, with a beam of 12.5 ft. and a midship depth of 4.2 ft. The boat will hold 4,000 lbs., or 12 persons, on a 7 x 16 ft. floor.
