US Coast Guard Cutter Docks in Japan After Shipboard Fire

Photos: USS John S McCain Arrives in Yokosuka for Repair
U.S. warship USS John S. McCain, which was involved in a collision with a cargo ship east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore in August, has arrived at Fleet Activities Yokosuka for repair. The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer DDG 56 arrived in Tokyo Bay aboard heavy lift transport vessel MV Treasure on December 5, and arrived at Fleet Activities Yokosuka on December 13 following several days of preparations. The vessel will be repaired by U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka before returning to service in U.S. 7th Fleet.
USS John S. McCain to be Repaired in Yokosuka
The Navy will repair the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) at the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility-Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka, Japan. Repairs will begin upon arrival from Singapore aboard a heavy lift vessel in October. Damage assessments conducted while the ship was moored in Singapore since the Aug. 21 collision revealed the scope of work could be completed in Japan at the lowest estimated cost and returns the ship to full service at the earliest opportunity. Repairing the ship in Yokosuka, where it is already part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) assigned to U.S. Seventh Fleet, also provides stability and continuity to crew members and their families.
LCE Get $5.5-Million US Navy Logistics Contract
Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) has been awarded a $5.5 million contract by the Naval Supply (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC), Puget Sound, Washington to provide process support to the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC). LCE will work with the planning and engineering departments to develop and issue job summaries and task-group instructions in the Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) system for carriers and surface ships ported in Yokosuka, Japan.
Galinis Commands NAVSEA's SUPSHIP Gulf Coast
Capt. William J. Galinis relieved Capt. Mary E. Dexter as commanding officer of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), Conversion and Repair, Gulf Coast, Sept. 18 in a ceremony in Pascagoula, Miss. Retired Rear Adm. Mark Hugel gave the ceremony's keynote address. NAVSEA Commander, Vice Adm. Kevin McCoy spoke about how SUPSHIP Gulf Coast has made an invaluable impact on the Navy's ability to build the Fleet. "(Dexter) led this team of more than 350 military and civilian employees in providing the engineering, quality assurance, contract management, and financial services in partnership with industry to build our 21st century Navy," said McCoy.
Young Brothers Promote Gregory Patch
Young Brothers, Ltd., and Hawaiian Tug & Barge (YB/HTB) have promoted Gregory R. Patch from Barge Maintenance Superintendent to Marine Maintenance Manager. In his new position, Patch will be responsible for overseeing the daily and long-term maintenance operations for the companies’ 12 tugboats and nine cargo barges, as well as generators and barge ramps. Patch has served as Barge Maintenance Superintendent since May of last year when he joined the company. At YB/HTB, he has overseen the conversion and overhauls of two cargo barges as well as drydocking repairs and maintenance for two additional barges. Prior to joining Young Brothers, Ltd. And Hawaiian Tug & Barge, Patch served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, with much of that time spent in shipyards and marine repair.
