ZF Marine’s New Single POD Propulsion System

ZF Marine LLC, the North American division of the global ZF Marine Group, introduced a revolutionary new approach to POD drive and joystick control technology in small pleasure craft applications. In conjunction with SeaVee boats, ZF Marine has developed a complete propulsion system solution around a center console sport fishing application that will offer joystick control and manoeuvrability while employing the pleasure craft industry’s first single POD driveline. 1.    The ZF 2800 Series POD drive rated at 480bhp.

ZF Marine Mourns the Passing of Tom Katica

It is with sadness that the ZF Marine Group recognizes the passing of Thomas P. “Tom” Katica, our colleague and long time Account Manager for the Western Region. On July 8, 2010, after a two year battle with cancer, Tom finally succumbed peacefully in his home on Whidbey Island, surrounded by family. “This is a great loss, not only for ZF Marine, but the marine industry as a whole,” said Wolfgang Schmid, President and General Manager, ZF Marine LLC. “Tom’s passion for our business and this industry was clearly evident every single day. His warm smile greeted everyone he met, and his infectious personality created many life-long friendships.

Obituary: Tom Katica, ZF Marine Group

Tom Katica's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at St. Anne's Church, Seattle, on Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m.

ZF Marine opens Technical Training Center

ZF Marine LLC, the North American subsidiary of ZF Marine Group in Padova, opened its new , located at ZF Marine's new North American headquarters facility in Miramar, FL. It is designed to provide ZF Marine’s authorized North and Central American service partners with comprehensive training modules on all of ZF Marine’s family of products. “Expanding our training capabilities was one of the priorities when we were building our new headquarters facility. Our rapidly expanding product offering combined with the ongoing expansion of our independent service network made sending factory training personnel into the field inefficient,” said Tim McFarland Aftermarket Segment Manager.

ZF Marine Restructures East Coast Activities

ZF Marine LLC, the North American subsidiary of ZF Marine Group in Padova, Italy has implemented some changes to its East Coast service network. To better coordinate service activities up and down the Eastern Seaboard, ZF Marine LLC will now schedule all field service activities out of its South Florida service center in Miramar, FL. Vessel owners requiring service support from ZF Marine can now dial 1-877-896-4040 and be connected to ZF Marine 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With the global acquisition this past August of HRP Thrusters, ZF Marine will consolidate its Warwick, R.I., Annapolis, Md, and Jarrett Bay, N.C. service activities to ZF HRP North America’s soon to be opened new location in Chichester, Pa.

ZF Marine New Bow Thrusters

ZF Marine Group, provider of marine propulsion technology, has added bow thrusters to its pleasure craft product range. The innovative design incorporates counter-rotating propellers in a patented tunnel design which increases efficiency while reducing noise. In addition, the bow thrusters can operate for long periods with heavy duty cycles. The new range of bow thrusters is principally intended for all types of pleasure craft, especially vessels requiring high maneuverability for extended operating periods.

The new ZF 9000 Series transmissions from ZF Marine are the latest in a long history of industry leading marine transmissions designed to handle the demands of high-power engines. With its design flexibility, the ZF 9000 Series is suited for any vessel – including patrol craft, fast ferries, and luxury yachts – that require compact, lightweight, high-performance propulsion. The series is available in several configurations, including parallel offset (vertical or horizontal), down-angle, and V-drive, and offers ratios of approximately 1.5 to 5.2.

ZF Fortifies Product Line, Business Plan

Consolidation of manufacturing and service entities is perhaps the world's worst kept secret. Marine propulsion manufacturers, in particular, have been rapidly consolidating companies, lines and capabilities in order to broaden their organizations to be truly global, while filling any holes in the power range along the way. ZF, a renowned maker of marine transmissions, has done this and more in becoming a single source propulsion supplier. The expansion of the product line includes a complete propulsion systems was part of ZF Marine's strategic plan established in January 1999. It has now become a reality, with the founding of the Propulsion Systems division, based at ZF Padova.
