SCHOTTEL Inc (USA) and SCHOTTEL Canada Inc have entered into a cooperative agreement with two Canadian West Coast marine industry companies to support the increasing local fleet of SCHOTTEL-propelled vessels. In the agreement, Seaspan Vancouver Drydock, based in North Vancouver, will act as a service and support center while McRae Electric, based in Burnaby, will be electric and controls service provider.Since the establishment of SCHOTTEL Canada Inc in 2016, the number of vessels equipped with SCHOTTEL propulsion systems in the Pacific Northwest area have increased enormously.

The Port of Seattle says it will welcome Pacific International Lines (PIL) to its harbor in February. PIL’s new Asia Pacific Northwest Service (ANW) will call Terminal 30 in partnership with China Shipping Container Lines’ (CSCL) and United Arab Shipping Company’s (UASC) existing joint service. The service will have a port rotation of Nansha/ Hong Kong/ Yantian/ Ningbo/ Shanghai/ Pusan/ Seattle/ Vancouver/ Nansha. The service gives fast and reliable transits for imports to the PNW and beyond, while providing expanded options for exports.

According to Reuters, Israeli shipping firm Zim, a unit of holding company Israel Corp., has received the first of 12 vessels it had ordered to meet an anticipated surge in demand as the global economy recovers. Zim said the new ship, Zim Los Angeles, had a capacity of 8,400 containers, and that a second ship with a capacity of 10,000 containers, Zim Djibouti, would be delivered in two weeks. Zim said the two vessels, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, would operate on its Pacific Northwest Service which runs from East Asia to the west coasts of Canada and the United States.

Sailors, Marines and Soldiers visited Naval Base (NB) Kitsap Bangor for a three-week emergency medical technician (EMT) course which concludes May 18. Service members packed the 40 seats available to learn about first response in a medical emergency. “A new policy has been implemented to require EMT training for Sailors aboard submarines,” said Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (SS/FMF/NAC) Shane Reece, event coordinator.
