Advanced Polymer Coatings Starts Factory Expansion

Kalmar Upgrades Bristol Port's STS Crane

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with The Bristol Port Company to undertake a comprehensive upgrade of one of the terminal's ship-to-shore (STS) cranes.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 second quarter order intake and the upgrade project is scheduled to be completed during Q1 2019.The Port of Bristol is located at the mouth of the River Avon in south-west England and can handle vessels of up to 130,000 dwt.James Overthrow, Director of Engineering at The Bristol Port Company said: "We chose to partner with Kalmar because of their proven track record in crane construction and retrofit projects. Ship Finance International Acquires 15 Vintage Vessels

Ship Finance International Limited announced that it has agreed to acquire a fleet of 15 feeder size container vessels, ranging from 1,100 TEU to 4,400 TEU, in combination with long term bareboat charters to a leading container line. The purchase price is confidential, but close to recycling value of the vessels. The charter term will be seven years from delivery, with subsequent purchase obligations by the charterer. Delivery of the vessels is expected in April and their aggregate EBITDA contribution is estimated to be approximately $20 million per year. Concurrently, the Company has agreed to sell the 1,700 TEU container vessel SFL Avon to an unrelated third party. This vessel has been operated in the short term charter market and net sales proceeds will be approximately $12.5 million.

Sanmar Completes Six Vessel Order for Svitzer

The delivery of Svitzer Avon to the Port of Bristol in the U.K. signals the completion of Sanmar's six boat build contract as part of Svitzer's tugboat replenishment program known as the Silver Bullet Project. The conclusion of this order brings the collaboration between the Turkish tug builder and Canadian tug design specialist Robert Allan Limited (RAL) to a number in excess of 150 vessels. All six of Svitzer’s new high performance tugboats are RAL designed RAstar 2800 E designs designated by the builder as the Sanmar Terminal Class measuring 28.2m x 12.6m.

This Day In Naval History: September 1

1800 - During the Quasi-War with France, the schooner, USS Experiment, commanded by Lt. Charles Stewart, captures the French privateer Deux Amix off Barbuda, West Indies. 1814 - The sloop-of-war, USS Wasp, commanded by Johnston Blakely, sinks the British brig sloop, HMS Avon, south of Ireland. 1925 - Cmdr. John Rodgers and a crew of four in a PN-9 aircraft run out of fuel on the first San Francisco to Hawaii flight. Landing at sea, they rig a sail and set sail for Hawaii. On Sept. 10, they are rescued by the submarine USS R-4, 10 miles from Kaui, then Territory of Hawaii. 1941 - The United States assumed responsibility for trans-Atlantic convoys from Argentia, Newfoundland, to the meridian of Iceland. 1942 - The United States Naval Air Force, Pacific Fleet is established. VTS Radar Systems Chosen for Port of Marseille Fos

A world leader in the design and supply of navigation and security surveillance systems, Kelvin Hughes has been contracted by French company AVON Communications to supply five of its SBS-700 radar systems for integration with the Marseille Fos Port Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS). The port is made up of two harbours, the ‘Eastern harbour’ with 1,000 hectares, located in the city of Marseille itself, and the ‘Western harbour’ with 12,000 hectares which is located in Fos, 70 km from the town.

UK Seeks Maritime Dominance of Yore

“Britannia rules the waves” paid a glowing tribute to the maritime past of the United Kingdom. Over the past three centuries as the sun began to set on the British power, resilient U.K. with its pioneering characteristics began its voyage of transformation to become a world-class maritime services center, with one of the largest clusters of marine insurance, ship finance, law, classification societies, ship broking, education and consultancy organizations. Significantly, two factors were responsible for this change. The first being marine transport, since it was the only point of access to the British Isles, and the second was the maritime trade and naval power that have had a great impact on the maritime sector influencing the country’s economy for several centuries.

Established in 1984 as a company dedicated to engineering marine motors, Armor Mécanique is situated in the port of Lorient. And while the coastal view remained picturesque, the ensuing years brought change. The company, founded by Marcel Février, is now dedicated to precision engineering and boilermaking. In 2005, upon Février’s retirement, experienced precision engineer Franck Vincent took on management of the company. Upon taking up the reins of Armor Mécanique, Vincent found that he had quite a lot on his plate.

Baker Hughes Names Kimberly Ross as CFO

Baker Hughes Incorporated has today announced appointment of Kimberly A. Ross, as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective October 22, 2014. Ross currently serves as Executive Vice President and CFO of Avon Products, Inc. She served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Royal Ahold N.V. from 2007 to 2011 and held various other finance positions at Royal Ahold from 2001 to 2007. Ross earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the University of South Florida and became a certified public accountant after graduation. "I am pleased to welcome Kimberly to the Company," said Martin Craighead, Baker Hughes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "She is an accomplished executive with more than 22 years of outstanding global experience in finance.

National Grid contract for Wood Group GTS

Wood Group GTS has secured a $3.2 million contract from National Grid to provide gas turbine icon™ governor control system upgrades to nine Rolls-Royce Avon gas turbines, including an additional governor to act as a rotational spare. The upgrades will be fitted to gas turbines operating at compressor stations located in Cambridge, Diss, Chelmsford and Huntingdon in the United Kingdom. The icon governor control system regulates fuel flow into the gas turbine, providing stable operation across the turbine performance range from no load to full load conditions. This upgrade will address equipment obsolescence, enabling the continued operation of all four compressor stations and providing increased flexibility to ensure the essential flow of natural gas across the UK network.

Beth G. Neumann has joined Starboard Cruise Services as CEO and President, reporting to Starboard Chairman, Ed Brennan. Owned by renowned world leader in luxury, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Starboard is the largest and leading onboard retailer in the cruise industry. In her leadership role, Neumann will oversee Starboard’s worldwide operations, which includes 1,800 employees, working both on land and on board the ships of the company’s eight partner cruise lines. Starboard’s sister company, Onboard Media, will also report to Neumann as part of her responsibilities.

Coast Guard, Good Samaritan Rescue Three From Capsized Boat

The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued three people Sunday after the 15-foot boat the three boaters were on capsized in Pamlico Sound near Avon, N.C. The boat's operator contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 4:48 p.m., stating he and a passenger were clinging to the overturned boat and one person was floating in the water. Sector North Carolina watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat - Small from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist. The RB-S crew arrived on scene at 6:09 p.m. and rescued one man in the water who was holding onto a buoyant boat seat while a good Samaritan aboard a recreational boat rescued the two remaining boaters.

Seawork Expands for 2013 Event
