Autonomous Water Taxis Planned for Busan

Avikus, HD Hyundai's autonomous navigation in-house startup, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Busan City, South Korea, and Korea Marine Consulting and Project Management Company (KMCP Co., Ltd.) for the development of an eco-friendly autonomous maritime tourism taxi service.Avikus will supply specialized self-navigating solutions for water taxis, while KMCP will provide an eco-friendly maritime taxi platform and assume the role of operating the water taxi service.

OXE Marine Unveils Diesel Electric Hybrid Outboard Concept

OXE Marine has developed a concept engine with hybrid drive that combines the diesel drive of OXE Marine's outboards with electric drive and thus offers even lower fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. RIBCRAFT Delivering On $80 Million Navy Contract

RIBCRAFT USA, a manufacturer of rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) for law enforcement, safety professionals and military agencies, announced that it recently entered the production phase on its five-year IDIQ contract with the U.S. Navy to build the standard 7- Meter RIB.Under the multi-year contract, RIBCRAFT will build up to 278 of the 7-Meter rigid inflatable boats worth approximately $80 million. This is purported to be the largest single contract based on number of boats ever awarded by the U.S.

Canada's New Oil Spill Response Boats Powered by Scania

Engine manufacturer Scania said it has been selected by the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) to power four 52-foot oil spill response landing crafts.Currently in production by family-owned Burlington, Wash welded aluminum boat manufacturer the William E. Munson Company, the vessels are powered by twin keel-cooled 750 HP Scania DI13-liter 088M engines with Twin Disc 5095 marine gearboxes, supplied by distributor Cascade Engine Center. Propulsion is provided by Hamilton 403 waterjets. This combination offers a top speed of 35 knots at full power.

HamiltonJet to Power 48 US Navy RIBs

HamiltonJet will collaborate with rigid inflatable boat manufacturer RIBCRAFT to supply 48 Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) to the U.S. Navy.RIBCRAFT USA was recently awarded a five-year contract to deliver the RIBs custom-fitted for use in explosive ordinance disposal (EOD). MARAD Awards Nearly $20 Mln for Small Shipyards

MetalCraft Delivers New Fireboat to Kuwait

MetalCraft Marine (MCM), an aluminum boat manufacturer located in Kingston, Ontario, has delivered their 18th NFPA Type III Fireboat in 14 years.In 2015 the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) ordered their first FireStorm 50’, along with a 50’ STLC landing craft support craft. The KFSD liked the FireStorm 50’ so much, they bought Two more in 2016. The KFSD have now received their Fourth FS50.The new FS-50 has the very latest in technology available for fire fighting and search and rescue. This is the first FireStorm powered by Volvo D13 1000 HP twin diesels. It is propelled by the first Marine Jet Power 310X mixed flow waterjets installed in North America. Beneteau Partners with Raceix

US Fines 'Duck Boat' Manufacturer in Fatal Crash

The U.S. Transportation Department said on Tuesday the company that built a Seattle amphibious "duck boat" involved in a deadly 2015 collision between the vehicle and a charter bus that killed five international students has agreed to pay a fine of up to $1 million.   Ride the Ducks International LLC also admitted it failed to comply with U.S. vehicle manufacturing rules because it had not registered with the government and agreed it will now follow rules governing safety related defects.   The National Transportation Safety Board in November blamed the crash on a front axle failure that resulted that from a manufacturing error. Moose Boats Delivers 2 Patrol Boats

Aluminum boat manufacturer Moose Boats announced the delivery of two patrol boats. The builder delivered a M2-38’ Patrol Catamaran to the United States Park Police in Fort Tilden, New York, as well as a M2-38’ Wide Cabin Patrol Catamaran to the New Jersey State Police in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. The U.S. Park Police’ all aluminum catamaran is powered by twin 425hp Cummins turbo diesel engines with TwinDisc transmissions coupled to Hamilton HJ292 water-jets. Maneuvering is achieved by dual complete Hamilton BlueArrow control stations at both the central cabin helm station and cockpit.

3D Scanning Speeds Up Drag Boat Racing

NVision, Inc., a company in 3D laser scanning and reverse engineering for over 24 years, said it was able to help a motorsports boat designer optimize the design of the custom-built propellers created for its Top Fuel Hydro drag boat. The boat is equipped with two custom-designed and handmade propellers. Metal Shark’s New Yard Now Operational

Louisiana-based boat manufacturer Metal Shark announced it has commenced operations at its new shipyard, where the first of its recently announced Endurance-class catamarans is now in production. In January, Metal Shark acquired a 25-acre waterfront tract situated on the Charenton Bypass Canal in Franklin, Louisiana, and announced plans to develop the new property into a facility to support its planned aluminum and steel shipbuilding efforts for vessels up to 250’ in length. Six months later, the new facility is operational and production is underway.

Eastern: Beyond the Backlog

Eastern Shipbuilding eyes bigger prizes while maintaining both quality and an astounding pace of work at their Panhandle locations. For these reasons and more, Eastern is one to watch. A sweltering, early July visit by Maritime Reporter to Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s (ESG) two Gulf Coast fabrication yards brought much more than the sheer breadth of its business backlog into sharp focus. That’s not to say the robust list of ongoing and future work for Eastern isn’t impressive. It is. For those who have never visited the conveniently located Florida Panhandle shipbuilder, however, it is difficult to put into perspective just how much upside potential resides in the firm’s two Panama City-based yards.

Metal Shark to Construct 350, Yes 350, Hi-speed Navy Boats

Louisiana-based aluminum boat manufacturer Metal Shark Aluminum Boats LLC has been awarded a contract to produce up to 350 specialized vessels for the United States Navy. The fixed-price contract is for the construction of the Navy’s High Speed Maneuverable Surface Target (HSMST) vessels. Based on Metal Shark’s high performance 26-foot Relentless center console model, the twin engine, welded aluminum HSMSTs will be utilized by the Navy primarily for advanced weapons system testing and fleet training exercises.

Louisiana-based boat manufacturer Metal Shark Aluminum Boats is significantly expanding its operations and has acquired a large waterfront parcel to accommodate the production of larger vessels. The builder has signaled its entry into the shipbuilding sector with the purchase of a 25-acre waterfront tract located in South Louisiana’s St. Mary Parish. Plans for the new facility call for over 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space, with approximately 100 new employees expected to be hired within the next few years.

US Leisure Boat Manufacturer's Sales Soar in Q3 2012

Marine Products Corp. announce unaudited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2012. Marine Products is a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats under two brand names: sterndrive and inboard pleasure boats by Chaparral, including H2O Sport and Fish & Ski Boats, SSi and SSX Sportboats, Sunesta Sportdecks, Xtreme Towboats, Signature Cruisers and Premiere Sport Yachts, and outboard sport fishing boats by Robalo. For the quarter ended September 30, 2012, they generated net sales of $38,494,000, a 73.0 percent increase compared to $22,254,000 last year. The increase in net sales was due to a 125.1 percent increase in the number of boats sold, partially offset by a 23.9 percent decrease in the average selling price per boat.

Indian boat builders, Navgathi, launch a compact 4-passenger solar-powered boat, one of the smallest boats of this kind available in the world. There are two variants of the model, SX and QX. Both of them are of robust construction using FRP (2 layer CSM 450 mat and 1 layer of WRM 600). Only marine grade resin (isothalic) and kerox colour pigment are used for durability and finish. A magnetic compass is provided for ease of navigation. In the premium version in addition GPS and a shore charging facility is provided to use the boat in low light conditions and night.
